  • If at first you don't shoplift

    A 49-year-old Cross City woman wasted no time following through with shoplifting after being questioned about a failed shoplifting incident earlier that same day.
    Bennie M. Wiley was charged with misdemeanor retail theft on April 12. She first was questioned during a traffic stop by the Chiefland Police Department about attempted shoplifting at Chiefland Package. According to the arrest report, Wiley stated, "The lady got it back." No charges were filed because no items were actually removed from the store.

  • Couple charged with drugs, child neglect

    John Pierce, 35, of Cedar Key, was charged on March 4 with five felonies after a traffic stop in Chiefland. Pierce was charged with possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and child neglect.
    A passenger in the vehicle, Callie Robinson Pierce, 28, of Cedar Key, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and felony child neglect.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n April 21, Richard Demond Addison, 24, Archer, housed for Alachua County–possession of cocaine, attempted murder/robbery.
    n April 19,  Paul Edward Brady, 37, St. Pete Beach, DWLSR habitual. Bond $2,000.
    n April 18, Jerry Thomas Brissenden, 49, Crystal River, DWLSR and DUI. Bond $50,000.
    n April 18, Richard Squire Brock, 51, Trenton, domestic battery, aggravated domestic assault. Bond $260,000.

  • Teen arrested after running wild in Bronson

      A 15-year-old is accused of stealing two cars, taking gas from a third, and nearly hitting a Levy County patrol deputy head-on during a car and foot chase Wednesday morning, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.

    Cody Thatcher, 15, is charged with grand theft, accused of taking a car in Clay county on Monday and later abandoning it in the Bronson Middle/High School parking lot.

  • Man arrested for shooting rifle

    Richard Brock, 56, of Trenton was arrested on Monday on a charge of domestic battery and domestic aggravated assault after Levy County deputies responded to his home after a call about a domestic fight, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.
    The victim told deputies she got into an argument with Brock over the kids and he grabbed her around her arms and shook her.
    She fled to the bathroom hoping to get away from Brock, but he came in armed with a rifle. He threatened her and shot one round nearly striking her in the head.

  • Suspect arrested for crime spree

    Jeromy Daniel Smith, 20, of Old Town, came to Chiefland at 4 p.m. April 9 with $200 to pay bills for his grandmother, but instead went on a crack cocaine fueled crime spree, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
    He bought and used crack, but was slowed some when his vehicle ran out of gas and he had to get around on foot.

  • Bronson accident kills one

    A four-vehicle accident April 12 that involved seven people resulted in the death of one person.
    According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on US Alt 27 at NE 100 Court, approximately a mile east of Bronson around 9:47 p.m.
    The 16-year-old juvenile driver of a 2005 Toyota was traveling north across the westbound lane of US 27A, the report says, and a motorcycle was traveling west on US 27A in the outside lane.
    The Toyota rotated counterclockwise and came to rest  facing south on the paved median and colliding with the motorcycle.

    n April 16, Mariano Francis Bonilla-Perez, 27, DWLSR times four.
    n April 14, Lacrisha Mae Bills, 19, Bronson, possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond $500.
    n April 16, Amy Lynn Combs, 29, Fanning Springs, petit theft.
