  • Chiefland man arrested on drug charges

    Larry "Andy" Meeks Jr., 29, of Chiefland was arrested Thursday after dropping off his children at school by the Levy County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force on charges of selling the prescription drug Oxycodone at his home, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.
    Meeks is suspected of being Levy County's largest prescription pill dealer and of selling narcotics from his home for a number of years, according to the release.  Agents purchased prescription pills from Meeks on several occasions.

  • In appreciation

    Brown Masonic Lodge No. 51 in Chiefland held an appreciation pizza party for members of the Chiefland Police Department and the Chiefland Fire Department.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Department reports the following arrests:
    n March 23, Erick Hernandez Acosta, 33, Morriston, DWLSR. Bond $5,000.
    n March 23, Elliott Howard Ansin, 24, Interlachen, sale of controlled substance and possession of controlled substance. Bond $15,000.
    n April 4, Cris Alan Arnold, 48, Englewood, DWLSR. Bond $1,000.
    n April 3, David Darrell Ables, 31, Fanning Springs, DWLSR habitual. Bond $2,000.

  • FHP seeking information

    The Florida Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver of a vehicle that caused an accident early on March 18 when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign on C.R. 339 and S.R 500 in Levy County.
    The driver, according to an FHP report, drove out onto the road causing a tractor-trailer to swerve, hit a guard rail and flip onto its side. There was about $30,000 worth of damage to the tractor-trailer, according to the report. The driver who caused the accident fled the scene, and FHP has no other details.

    n  Michael Raymond Keller, dealing in stolen property, 180 days with credit for 105 days served. Must pay civil judgement.

    n March 22, James Bascum Allen, 39, Old Town, readmit from court DWLSR.
    n March 26, Griagal Connell Barr, 34, Williston, burglary of a dwelling. Bond $40,000.
    n March 21, Bobby Lee Bean, 23, Bronson, readmit from court DWLSR.
    n March 27, Dennis James Berry, 58, Chiefland, hold for the state of Ohio, three counts: trafficking in drugs, possession of drugs and possession of criminal tools.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n March 20, Jesse Carlton Bennett, 24, Round Rock, Texas, aggravated assault with deadly weapon. Bond $50,000.
    n March 18, Frank Peter Bernatos, 54, Cross City,  RWOV and trespass after warning. Bond $4,000.
    n March 14, Alisha Marie Braswell, 27, Chiefland, fraud insufficient funds, bond surrender violation of condition. Bond $20,000.
    n March 16, Michael Christopher Caliguire, 32, Dunnellon, FTA two counts, trespassing and RWOV. Bond $29,026.

  • Third man sought in home invasion arrested

    A third man sought in a Feb. 1 home invasion in Williston has been arrested and jailed in Alachua County.
    Stefan Lernard Lattimore, 35, of Gainesville is being held under $20,000 bond in the Alachua County Jail on three counts of failure to appear in court as promised.
    He also has an outstanding arrest warrant from Levy County on armed home invasion robbery.

  • Theft at Fort Fanning may hurt festivals

    Fanning Springs officials are wondering how to deal with a recent theft that leaves Fort Fanning Historical Park without any electrical wiring.
    A report from the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office made on March 8 estimates the damage from the theft, which is still under investigation, at about $10,000.
