    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

  • Former sheriff's lieutenant sentenced to 30 years in sexual attack

    The former Levy County Sheriff's lieutenant who attacked and held his ex-girlfriend prisoner for 10 hours, beating and raping her, will spend 30 years in prison followed by 15 years sex offender probation with electronic monitoring.

    It was an ordeal that the victim told the court had left her filled with shame, guilt, self-loathing; unable to look at a 9-mm gun and unable to be around crowds; robbed of her spark and desire in life. “I feel I cannot trust anyone,” she said.

  • Sexual predator moves into county

    Lamont Lewis Nelson, 32, designated a sexual predator for his conviction in 1999 on sexual battery on a child under the age of 12, has registered his home address with the Levy County Sheriff's Office. By Florida law Nelson is required to notify law enforcement whenever he changes or establishes a new address.

    Nelson, convicted in Highlands County, was just released from prison and has registered his address as: 12451 N.E. 108 Terr., Archer.

     The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

  • Duo arrested in burglaries

    Two people were arrested Thursday in connection with burglaries in and around Chiefland where residents lost guns, a pressure washer and checks that were used to purchase goods that were later returned for cash, according to a Levy Sheriff's Office spokesman.

    Levy County Sheriff's Detectives Jimmy Anderson and Mike Wilkinson arrested John Wayne Pipkin, 36, and Kelly Michelle Colson, 28, are accused of break-ins that started in November 2012.

  • Man arrested in death of girl found in woods

    Editor's note: Some details of this story may be disturbing. 

    An arrest was made Thursday in the death of DeAnna Lee Stires, the young woman found in the woods east of Otter Creek by hunters.

    Byron Lee Boutin, 50, of Homosassa was arrested Wednesday and charged with second degree murder and being a felon in possession of a .38 pistol, according to an arrest report on the Citrus County Sheriff's Office website.

     n Wayne Lyle Allman, battery with two prior convictions, 270 days with credit for 66 days served. Must pay civil judgment and jail fund.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

  • Woman dies after accident

    A Chiefland woman is dead as the result of an accident on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on Northwest 55th Avenue, two miles north of County Road 330, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release. 

    Jo-Ann Braswell Bailey, 66, died at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

    She was driving a 2003 Pontiac mini-van southbound on Northwest 55th Avenue as William A. Graden, 28, of Chiefland was attempting to back a 1997 Freightliner semi and flatbed from the northbound lane into a driveway.
