  • Man shoots self outside store

       An 87-year-old Levy County resident was found dead outside a convenience store after he went into the store at Northeast 140th Court and U.S. Hwy. 27A,  asked the clerk to call 911 and exited the store. The man, whose wife died recently, had a gunshot wound to his head, according to the Levy County Sheriff's Office report. The man told the store clerk officers were to first go to his home near the store. When they did, they found a note he had left. The case is being investigated as a suicide.

  • Barn destroyed in fire

    Chiefland Fire Rescue was among several departments that responded to a blaze at a barn on County Road 124 across the street from the Levy County Quilt Museum at 4 a.m. Sunday. The barn and its contents — heart pine boards — were destroyed by the blaze. Chiefland Fire Chief James Harris said it was decided to let the blaze burn.

     The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    n Sept. 9, Erica Sue Allen, 34, Inglis, possession of drug equipment.

    n Sept. 5, Jesse Carroll Baggett, 32, Bronson, petit theft, possession of drug equipment, possession of marijuana. Bond $18,000.

    n Sept. 4, Shellie Renee Bailey, 36, FTA. Bond $2,000.

    n Sept. 4, David Donald Bezanson, 34, Inglis, out of county warrant. Bond $5,000.

    n Sept. 4, Gerald David Browning, 31, Trenton, possession of marijuana, possession of drug equipment. Bond $1,500.

  • Police station expands

    Work continues on the extension to the Chiefland Police Station on East Park Avenue and U.S. Highway 19/Main Street. The new space will be used to house records and give officers room to work in writing reports.

    n Sept. 11, Heather Corbett, 20, Trenton, battery on officer, firefighter or EMT w/v, carrying an electric weapon. Bond $65,000.

    n Sept. 9, Angela Renee Delafe, 44, Inglis, possession of controlled substance w/o prescription. Bond $25,000.

    n Sept. 14, Melissa Corinne Fellhauer, 29, Inglis, VOP. Bond $2,000.

    n Aug. 9, Beech, David Lee, of Chiefland, Battery touch or strike. $20,000 bond.

    n Aug. 12, Boykin, Brandon Travon, of Archer, no valid license.

    n Aug. 11, Boykin William Tay, of Trenton, four counts grand theft less than $5,000, marijuana poss. more than 20 grams, Drug equipment, trespassing. $23,000 bond.

    n Jerrell Lashaw Hopkins, VOP on possession of controlled substance without a prescription, probation revoked, 180 days with credit for 138 days served. Must pay civil judgment, jail fund and VOP cost.

    n Matthew Huston, VOP on criminal mischief under $1,000, revoke probation, 270 days with credit for 232 days served. Must pay civil judgment, jail fund, VOP cost.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Department reports the following arrests:

    n July 31, Nadia Behrens, 21, Bronson, out of county warrant.

    n Aug. 4, Raymond Crouch, 40, Old Town, driving on permanently revoked DL, license plate not assigned, possession methamphetamine, deliver methamphetamine, possession drug equipment, refuse to accept citation. Bond $96,500.

    n Aug. 1, Richard William Deemer, 22, Sarasota, burglary, petit theft, out of county warrant. Bond $30,000.

  • Levy County launches Smart911

    Levy County E911 announced Monday that they have implemented Smart911 to enhance delivery of 9-1-1 emergency services for area citizens.
