  • Man critical after scooter accident

    John C. Houghtaling, 76, of Bronson was injured and in critical condition at Shands Hospital in Gainesville on Monday, Feb. 25, after his 1990 Honda scooter left County Road 337, headed down the shoulder, overturned and skidded a few feet. 

    Houghtaling, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, was thrown from the scooter as it skidded. 

    Trooper Glen Ganus investigated the accident and no charges were filed at the time of the mishap.

  • Two convicted in home invasion to join third in prison

    Two of four men charged in the home invasion robbery, beating and attempted shooting of a Bronson man in his home while his mother, stepfather and two children, ages three and seven, were inside the home, have been convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison following a two-day trial.

  • Out-of-towner arrested for letting it all hang out

    An Illinois man was arrested at a Chiefland Hotel Friday after witnesses told police he came out of his room naked and masterbated in front of children.
    "This is a nightmare. I'm going to South America," the man, 55-year-old Mark Wayne Sarver, reportedly told police as he was placed into the back of a police cruiser.
    Police, according to Sarver's arrest report, responded to the call on the matter that came from a worker at the Best Western hotel at about 2:30 p.m.

  • Lost keys find suspect in theft

    A Williston man's lost key chain that was found near a Northeast 10th Street home on Feb. 8 has led to his arrest for a break-in at the home, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.

    Steven A. Crosby, 46, was arrested on Feb. 18 and charged with burglary of a dwelling and grand theft by Det. Sgt. Mike Narayan. His bond is $105,000.

    The homeowner reported someone had tossed a brick through a window to gain entry to the house and took approximately $425 in personal property.

  • 2 charged in Chiefland thefts

    An alert citizen's tip has led to two Chiefland men being charged with stealing more than once from a home on Northwest 80th Street in Chiefland, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.

    Michael Q. Florence, 42, and Mikal L. Rodriguez. 19, were arrested on Feb. 19, as a result of work done by Sheriff's Det. Mike Wilkinson, Patrol Sgt. Todd Houchin and Dep. Matt King. Both are charged with burglary and grand theft and each has a $100,000 bond.

  • Pistol event benefits Relay For Life

    A basic pistol class hosted by the Levy County Sheriffs Office on March 23 will benefit the Williston Relay for Life. The class will qualify an individual for the education requirement for a Florida Concealed weapons permit.

    The class will be held in the Levy County Sheriffs Office Classroom at 9150 N.E. 80th Ave., Bronson.

    Class fee is $65 for registrations done online and $75 at the door the day of the class. Lunch will be provided and additional donations to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be accepted.

  • Two Williston men charged in theft

    Levy County Sheriff's investigators used some high-tech and old-fashioned methodology to arrest and charge two Williston men who admitted burglarizing a home on U.S. Highway 27A, according to a sheriff's office press release.

    Michael Scott Fordham, 38, is charged with burglary and petit theft, and Ronald Glenn Perry, 40, is charged with tewo counts of burglary and two counts of petit theft after being arrested by detective Sgt. Mike Narayan and Det. Jimmy Anderson.
