  • Man arrested on manslaughter charge

    It was just a simple report by the caretaker of a 96-year-old woman who claimed she died of natural causes.

    But Helen Bishop's story was not yet finished.

    And it was left for a funeral director, the 8th Circuit Medical Examiner, the Levy County's Sheriff's investigators and the 8th Circuit State Attorney's Office to write the final chapters.

  • Two arrested in firearms theft case

    A man and a juvenile are charged with burglary and grand theft in connection with a break-in where eight firearms, a computer, a cell phone and other personal property were taken from a residence south of Williston on U.S. 41 on Oct. 15, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.

  • Department of safety hires four new faces

    Earlier this month, the Levy County Department of Public Safety welcomed four new members: Ignacio Fernandez, Hanniah Woods, Nicholas Henderson and Wallace Taylor.

  • Crash on SR121 injures 5

    A two-vehicle crash on Friday, Oct. 24, at about 5:30 p.m. on State Road 121 and County Road 335 caused injuries to five people, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. 

    Xavier D.V. Brown, 18, of Williston, was driving a 2008 Hyundai Sonata south on SR121 approaching the intersection with CR 335 when he attempted to turn left onto CR 335. His vehicle was struck by a 2001 Honda Civic, being operated in the northbound lane by Latoya B. Driver, 28, of Gainesville.

  • Two injured in US27 crash

    Emergency personnel got to use their extrication skills when a two vehicle accident on Tuesday, Oct. 21, shortly after 12:30 p.m. at U.S. Highway 27 and County Road 335A trapped the occupants in the vehicles.
