    The following cases were decided in Levy County in the 8th Judicial Circuit criminal court in the month of September.  When a case is nolle pros, it means the charge will not be prosecuted, in essence it is dropped.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

  • Memorial service for Sheriff's K9s Nov. 13

     A memorial service for two K9 deputies who died in recent months will be held Nov. 13 at 10 a.m.at the Suwannee River Youth Livestock Show and Sale arena on U.S. Highway 19 at State Road 26. 

    Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum said the public is invited to attend and remember K9 officer Robiek who worked with Deputy Clint Anderson and  K9 officer Taz who served almost 10 years with Cpl. Pete Barnes. 

  • County DPS at seafood festival

    Staff with the Levy County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS) attended the Seafood Festival in Cedar Key Oct. 19 and 20. At the event, the public was provided an opportunity to meet some of the LCDPS staff and receive information about breast cancer awareness and fire prevention. Several members of the local community stopped by to meet the crew and ask questions about the services LCDPS offers.

  • Sheriff says county needs help on traffic

    Twenty people have died in traffic accidents in Levy County and there's still two months left to go in 2013. That number of fatalities surpasses all of 2012.

  • Mistrial in Williston Crab Fest shooting trial

    A mistrial was granted Wednesday morning in the trial of Devonte Tremaine Ocasio, 20, in the Williston Crab Fest shootings after information received late in the case about Ocasio's arrest came to the attention of his attorneys.

    Eighth Judicial Circuit Judge Stan Griffis III granted the defense motion for a mistrial after defense attorneys also waived their prior motion demanding a speedy trial on chages of homicide, aggravated assault and aggravated battery. 

  • $20,000 for tips on release of 2 prison inmates 

    TALLAHASSEE — A $20,000 reward is being offered to anyone who provides tips on the release of the two prison inmates using falsified court documents. The reward is being offered by Attorney General Pam Bondi, Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Gerald Bailey, and the Crime Stoppers of the Big Bend.

  • Brasington appointed to 8th Judicial Court

    Tallahassee — Last week, Gov. Rick Scott announced the appointment of Monica Brasington to the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court.

  • Four injured in crash

    Four people were injured on Saturday, Oct. 19, shortly after 5 p.m. after a vehicle failed to come to a stop at a stop sign at U.S. Highway 41 and County Road 323 south of Williston, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
