• Pedestrian hospitalized after being hit by car

    A pedestrian walking along U.S. Highway 19 south of Chiefland suffered critical injuries when he was struck by a sedan at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    Oscar Ramirez, 42, of Chiefland, was transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

    According to the report by FHP Trooper M.D. Geoffroy, Ramirez was walking south along US 19 near the white edge line. The portion of U.S. 19 was not lighted.

  • Sheriff's office wants your old prescription

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the Levy County Prevention Coalition and the Williston Police Department, will be participating in the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency's National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative.

    This year's event will be on Saturday Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sheriff's deputies will be present to accept all medications. There will be four collection sites available in Levy county. They are:

    •Aug. 4, Austin Colby Colson, 20, Fanning, aggravated assault W/ deadly weapon W/O intent to kill. Bond $50,000.

  • Suspect sought in robbery

    Chiefland Police Department investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a person in reference to a burglary at the Chiefland Patriot Club on Friday, Aug. 7, at about 3 a.m.

    Police responded to a burglary alarm at the club at 313 S. Main St. where a window was broken.

    The person being sought is a male, weighing between 140-150 pounds and standing between 5’ 6’ and 5’ 9’ with multiple tattoos.

  • Meth making ingredients found in backpack

    The Levy County Drug Task Force arrested a local repeat offender on methamphetamine related charges on Monday, Aug. 10. Task force investigators went to Northwest 125th Street, Chiefland, in order to execute an arrest warrant. There, investigators located and arrested 35-year-old Nevina Tease on an outstanding violation of probation warrant.

  • Teen driving courses continue

    Teen drivers who have procrastinated and not enrolled in the summer Teen Driver Improvement Program better get on the move as there are only a few classes remaining.

    The class, offered by the Levy County Sheriff’s Office’s Community Relations Division, is open to all Levy County students who have a current operators license, learners permit or who are about to get their learners permit and it is free. It just takes four hours.

  • Authorities need help solving Williston murder

    On July 5, 2014, deputies from the Levy County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 3571 NE 218th Avenue in Williston to the report of a deceased person.  The investigation revealed that Leo Rives, 31, had been found dead beside his vehicle. 

    After following up on initial leads, the case has remained unsolved.  With the passing of the first anniversary of Rives' murder, LCSO Investigators are asking the public for its assistance in closing this case for the friends and family of Rives.
