  • Trenton cyclist injured in Alachua crash

    Jeffery Allen Burrow, 29, of Trenton, was hospitalized in critical condition at U.F. Health's Shands Hospital in Gainesville due to injuries he received in an accident on Interstate 75 at the 338 mile marker on Thursday, Nov. 22 at 7:50 a.m. according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

  • County takes a leap forward in emergency transport

    The Levy County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS) has added a new resource to its arsenal of public safety equipment to serve the citizens and visitors of Levy County.

    On Nov. 1, Air Methods began 24-hour-a-day air transport services based out of the Levy County Public Safety Complex, located in Bronson.

    This partnership has provided the citizens and visitors in Levy County with an Emergency Medical Service aircraft based in the County that one typically would not see in a rural setting.

  • Law appreciation night

    The annual event, hosted by the Chiefland Woman's Club, honors the men and women who serve their communities in law enforcement and public safety. Long and Starkey were both presented with awards.  

    Ronnie LeCompte and Mandy Willis were just two of several to take home awards for service Oct. 22 during the event.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Nov. 14 - Austin Ryan Bouten, 22, Williston, VOP. 

  • Shed fires last weekend in Inglis

    Firefighters responded to two shed fires that sparked up in Inglis Saturday, Nov. 9, according to the Levy County Department of Public Safety.

       The fires, which were reported at about 9 p.m., occurred at 44 Vicki St. and also included the burning of a 36-foot-long boat. Two homes nearby were protected from the fire by emergency crews.

    Levy County Department of Public Safety, Battalion 1, Engine 5 (Yankeetown), Medic 3 (Inglis), Squad 2, Inglis Fire Department, Levy County Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshal responded to the fires.

  • Operation Bronson Ink nets drug arrests

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force (DTF) has announced the arrests of 19 people with more expected in a six-month investigation of street level drug sales dubbed Bronson Ink, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

    The Bronson area investigation utilized confidential informants to make 68 cases resulting in 148 charges for 30 defendants. Informants purchased a myriad of narcotics such as crack and powder cocaine, prescription medications including oxycodone, marijuana, Molly (Ecstasy)  and one firearm.

  • Pole barn, hay burn in Bronson

    Bronson Fire Department, Levy County Department of Public Safety Battalion 1, Medic 6 and Chiefland Fire Department were dispatched to a Bronson pole barn on fire just before 8 p.m., Nov. 6. 

       The first unit on scene found a fully involved structure full of hay located in Bronson. The owner of the barn had filled it with hay earlier in the day. The building was a total loss. No animals were inside the barn or injured in the fire. Bronson Fire Department remained on scene to secure the area and exposures. 

  • Court Dispositions published November 14

    The following cases were decided in Levy County in the 8th Judicial Circuit criminal court in the month of September.  When a case is nolle pros, it means the charge will not be prosecuted, in essence it is dropped.
