    n May 1, Wayne Lyle Allman, 44, Fanning Springs, battery, aggravated battery. Bond $150,000.
    n May 4, Nicky Shane Brown, 35, Cedar Key, DUI.
    n May 4, Melissa Carter, 51, Chiefland, FTA. Bond $1,000.
    n May 6, Duane Edward Dessert, 50, Old Town, DWLS.
    n April 30, Kevin Eugene Dowell, 38, Bronson, DUI and serious bodily injury to another. Bond $5,000.
    n May 4, Jeremy Dylan Drake, 19, Bronson, VOP.

  • School custodian arrested for guns on campus

    A tip that a Williston Elementary School custodian had guns in his vehicle parked on campus has let to the arrest of Dennis W. Solowski on Thursday, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.

    Sheriff's School Resource Deputy Grant Sandlin received information, located Solokowski's vehicle parked at the school and interviewed Solokowski at the school.

    n April 27, Kevin Ray Corbett, 54, Tampa, trespassing.
    n April 23, Marshall Ray Daughtery, 26, three FTA. Bond $150,000.
    n April 25, Deonte Lavar Davis, 22, Ft. White, out of county warrant. Bond $5,000.

        The sheriff's office reports the following arrests:
    n April 21, Charles Rowland Bray, 54, Inglis, burglary. Bond $25,000.
    n April 16, Elizabeth Kelly Coley, 18, Chiefland, loitering. Bond $5,000.
    n April 21, Dale Derber, 58, Newberry, criminal damage to property. Bond $2,000.
    n April 18, Travis Donald, 23, Chiefland, selling marijuana within 1,000 feet of a place of worship, cocaine distribution within 1,000 feet of a place of worship. Bond $110,000.

  • Horne recognized for a job well done

       Chiefland Police Chief Robert Douglas, left, presented CPD Officer Alton Horne, center, with a certificate in recognition of Horne's part in a recent investigation that helped break up a fraudulent check cashing scheme.
       Horne said the case started out simple enough but soon began leading him to an extensive fraudulent check operation as far away as Alachua County. Fifteen arrests were made in the operation that, all together, had passed off more than $100,000 in bad checks.

  • Police: Man burgled in three counties

    Detectives arrested David J. Morin, 31, of Dunnellon, April, 14, in connection with several commercial burglaries, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
    The release said Morin was part of a group of people who  broke into the Kwik King in Morriston at the beginning of March. Several thousand dollars worth of cigarettes and lottery tickets were stolen from the store. And thousands of dollars worth of damage to the store resulted from the break in. The store, along with a break in at Morris Junction BP Station, was broken into three times.

  • Disabled car leads to driver's arrest

    Manuel Alejandro Marmolejos found himself with more than car trouble on Saturday, April 21, when Levy Sheriff's Deputy Matthew King stopped to help him, according to a Levy Sheriff's Office press release,
    When the deputy stopped to assist Marmolejos with a white Honda CRV on the side of the road in the Chiefland area  he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. King asked Marmolejos if he had anything in the car that was illegal and Marmolejos said no.

    n April 12, Michael Allen, 22, Fanning Springs, burglary, petit theft, illegal use of credit cards. Bond $6,000.
    n April 15, Susie Ann Bennett, 56, Chiefland, petit theft.
    n April 11, Alethea Beyer, 37, Ft. Myers, disorderly intoxication, possession of controlled substance without a prescription. Bond $6,000,
    n April 13, James B. Bunt, 48, Trenton, out of county warrant. Bond $5,000.

  • Biker killed in Williston

       An early morning accident April 12 left a Summerfield man dead.
       Jeremy Wahl, 28, the rider of a 2008 motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency workers responded to the accident at SW 12 Ave. and S. Main St., Williston around 6:30 a.m.
    According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Angie Brewer, 69, of Williston was traveling east on SW 12 Ave. in her 2006 Chevy and was attempting to turn left onto S. Main St. and failed to see Wahl, who was traveling west.

  • Synthetic drugs disappear from Chiefland shelves

    No more Mr. Nice Guy, Scooby Snax, Mad Hatter, Cloud 9 or Kool Beanz are to be found in Chiefland.
    The city Police Department went on a roundup on April 2 cleaning hundreds of packets, envelopes and containers of products labeled bath salts, incense, spice, K2 and synthetic cannabis from convenience stores shelves or requiring sellers to return the products to wholesalers.
