  • Women's defense class offered

    The Williston Police Department is partnering with Jerry Heines to sponsor a “Women’s Awareness and Defense Class” to teach women how to avoid being the victim of a physical attack. Heines has formed his class to prepare women to have a survivor mindset and to use simple and practical techniques of self defense. This is a one night, four hour course and not meant to train anyone in complex martial arts forms. The class is free.

    n May 26, Wayne Matthew Beaumont, 29, Inglis, battery.
    n May 27, Charles Borttz, 47, Pompano Beach, tampering, battery.
    n May 28, Cecil Nelson Brooks, 45, Helena, Ga., disorderly intoxication. Bond $5,000.
    n May 28, Jake Junior Bryant, 31, Largo, loitering, causing child to commit act of delinquency. Bond $25,000.

  • Home invasion suspect's dinner interrupted

    It was hunger that did in the second suspect in a home invasion robbery in Bronson on May 10.
    Levy County Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals, acting on a tip, arrested Patrick Shawn McLaughlin, 45, as he tried to enjoy a quiet dinner at the Barnyard Junction Restaurant in Fort White.
    Deputies from Columbia County and Levy County  took McLaughlin into custody and treated him to breakfast guaranteed at the Columbia County Detention Facility.

    n May 19, Shellie Renee Bailey, 36, Chiefland, Driving while license expired for more than four months.
    n May 19, Lowell Timothy Baker, 62, St. Petersburg, DUI, DWLSR, refusal to submit to DUI test, refusal to accept, sign citation or post bond. $50,000.

  • Concealed weapons class supports church trip 

       The Levy County Sheriff’s Office will sponsor a concealed weapons permit class Saturday, May 26, beginning at 8 a.m.. at the Levy County Sheriff’s Office classroom.  Cost of the class is $75.

    Door registration on the day of the event will be accepted, however, a $10 surcharge will be added.

    n May 12, Bruan Robert Bible, 26, Cedar Key, two counts possession of marijuana, two counts selling marijuana. Bond $120,000.
    n May 10, Valrize Latrice Bristol, 32, Bronson, battery, VOP. Bond $50,000.

  • One arrested, one sought in home invasion

    One man is under arrest and another is being sought in a home invasion robbery at a Bronson home on May 10, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
    Patrick Shawn McLaughlin, 45, is being sought by deputies, while a man described as his partner  Aaron Michael Miller, 31, was arrested shortly after the incident and jailed on charges of home invasion robbery and depriving a victim of 911. Miller's bond is $500,000.

  • School custodian arrested on campus gun charge

    A tip that a Williston Elementary School custodian had guns in his vehicle parked on campus has led to the arrest of Dennis W. Solowski on Thursday, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
    Sheriff's school resource deputy Grant Sandlin received information, located Solowski's vehicle parked at the school and interviewed Solowski at the school.

  • Bronson town barn burgled

    About $2,300 worth of brass fittings and tools were stolen from Bronson's public works facility, located near the Old Bronson High School, according to the Levy County Sheriff's Office.
    The theft was reported by town employees May 3 after discovering a steel door on the facility ripped from its hinges.
    "One of my guys went over to get something, called me and said, 'Jimmy, somebody's broken the door off the thing,' " said Jimmy Dunford, public works administrator for the town.
