• Sunday accident hospitalizes 3

    An accident in Otter Creek where U.S. Highway 19 meets State Road 24 on Sunday, Nov. 29, has left a three people hospitalized, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    Shirley Chisolm Randall, 67, was transported to Shands Hospital at UF Health due to the serious nature of her injuries.

    Indica Monet Harris, 21, of Tallahassee and Brooke Michelle Holloway, 22, of St. Petersburg, noth passengers in the second vehicle, were also transported to Shands with serious injuries.

  • Report leads to DUI, child neglect, drug charge

    A concerned resident contacted the Levy County Sheriff's office to report a reckless driver, a call that ended in an arrest.

    Joshua Robert Vogel of Palm Harbor was spotted driving in an erratic manner, nearly colliding with other vehicles while traveling north on US 19 in a blue Ford pickup truck from the Inglis area.

    The caller observed a young child not restrained by a car seat and being shaken about in the vehicle.

  • Pedestrian dies in Levy accident

    An O'Brien man died after jumping from a road median into a travel lane in front of a vehicle on State Road 55 just south of Northwest 150th Street on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 8:55 p.m. according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    Michael David Robinette, 35, of O'Brien, died after being struck by a 2011 GMC Sierra headed north in the inside travel lane of SR55. Both the pedestrian and the vehicle came to a stop in the left turn lane.

  • Chiefland driver cited in accident

    Friday the 13th was not kind to a Chiefland man who was cited for failure to yield the right of way after his SUV collided with a pickup truck and trailer on U.S. Highway 27A and County Road 347 on Friday, Nov. 13 at 4:15 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    Dennis Andrews, 79, of Chiefland was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox and crossing the median on U.S. 27A to turn left onto CR 347 when he failed to observe a 2012 GMC Sierra towing a trailer operated by Barry Jones, 58, of The Villages.

  • Educator turns self in to Levy on exposure charge in Marion

    Patrick J. Sasnett, 37, a dean at Evergreen Elementary School in Marion County, has been charged with exposing himself after a 44-year-old grandmother complained to authorities.

  • Fanning man arrested on assault, drug charges

    Levy County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jermaine Carl Curtis, 32, on assault, drug and false imprisonment charges that stem from an incident in the Fanning Springs area that happened on Oct. 4. 

    A woman reported going to Curtis' home to purchase illegal narcotics from him but during the deal Curtis grabbed her, moved her into another room where he took more than $1,000.00 in cash rom her, beat her and threatened her with a firearm.
