    The Levy County Sheriff’s Department reports the following arrests:

    n July 31, Nadia Behrens, 21, Bronson, out of county warrant.

    n Aug. 4, Raymond Crouch, 40, Old Town, driving on permanently revoked DL, license plate not assigned, possession methamphetamine, deliver methamphetamine, possession drug equipment, refuse to accept citation. Bond $96,500.

    n Aug. 1, Richard William Deemer, 22, Sarasota, burglary, petit theft, out of county warrant. Bond $30,000.

  • Levy County launches Smart911

    Levy County E911 announced Monday that they have implemented Smart911 to enhance delivery of 9-1-1 emergency services for area citizens.

  • Progress Energy warns customers of bill-payment scam

    ST. PETERSBURG – Progress Energy Florida, a subsidiary of Duke Energy, is urging customers be on alert for a new utility bill payment scam affecting customers across the country.
    Under the scam, customers are receiving a call informing them their electric service is scheduled for immediate disconnection and they should make a payment by purchasing a “Green Dot Pak” card at a local drug or convenience store. Progress Energy has received reports of customers who have been contacted about this scam in both its Carolinas and Florida service territories.

    n Debbie J. Barfield, driving while license revoked for habitual traffic offense, 18 months with credit for 5 days. Must pay civil judgment and jail fund.

    n July 25, Christopher Lynn Coup, 34, Bronson, out of county warrant.

  • Accident ties up intersection

    Charges are pending in an accident on July 18 after 4 p.m. between two log trucks at the intersection of State Road 24 and U.S. Highway 27A in Bronson, according to a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman.

    Roberto Febles of Ocala was driving a 1995 International tractor hauling a pole trailer loaded with logs eastbound on SR24 when it collided with a 1995 Peterbuilt hauling an empty flatbed trailer operated by Kempton Shipman of Port Charlotte.

    Traffic was diverted into Bronson for two hours while officers investigated the accident and freed the heavyweight vehicles.

  • Chiefland man arrested in underage sex sting

    A Chiefland man was arrested Saturday by investigators with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and the Gainesville Police Department.
    Michael Shaine Smith, 24, was charged Saturday on five felony charges of obscene communication and for using a phone to commit a felony when, according to law enforcement officials, he solicited sex from investigators posing as a 14-year-old girl and her 32-year-old boyfriend.
    According Smith’s arrest report, Smith and the investigator posing as an underage girl “discussed having a sexual encounter.”

    n July 18, David Richard Appling, 24, Old Town, two counts FTA, four counts VOP.
    n July 20, James Bowen, 45, Inglis, burglary, grand theft. Bond $75,000.
    n July 20, Jesse James Crain, 30, Archer, two counts VOP.
    n July 20, Roger Lee Daniels, 42, Inglis, possession of drug equipment, attached registration not assigned. Bond $20,500.
    n July 17, Steven Wayne Edwards, 20, Inglis, DWLSR. Bond $500.
    n July 17, April Marie Gay, 28, Trenton, two out of county warrants.

  • Patrol sergeant named

    Levy County Sheriff Johnny Smith has promoted Cpl. Todd Houchin to the rank of sergeant for the Patrol Division. Houchin is with Alpha Company with Lt. Perry Ott as Watch Commander.
      Houchin began his law enforcement career with the Cedar Key Police Department in February 1998. He started with the Sheriff's Office in August 1999 and was promoted to the rank of corporal in February 2003.
    Smith said Houchin has "stepped up to the plate" in a leadership role for his shift.

  • Sexual predator registers address

    Jesse J. Crain, 30,  has registered as a sexual predator with the Levy County Sheriff's Office because he is living within the county. Crain is required to notify law enforcement whenever he changes his address.
      Crain was convicted in Pinellas County in 2002 for lewd and lascivious molestation on a child under 12. Crain is living tat 11851 N..E 106th  Court in Archer.
