  • Gun class benefits Relay for Life

    AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary 88 will host a basic gun class Monday, March 9 from 6-10 p.m. with the $50 fee benefiting Relay for Life.

    The class is taught courtesy of the Levy County Sheriff’s Department.

    Participants must pre-register.

  • Rear-ender not serious

    A two-vehicle accident in which one vehicle rear-ended another ended with minor injuries on Feb. 10, at 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 129 and County Road 346.

    Kinsey Ward, 16, and passenger Makenna Watkins, 15, both of Chiefland were southbound in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu sedan behind 2000 Ford Ranger pickup driven by Truitt Renaud, 23, of Trenton on US 129.

  • South Levy meth lab dismantled

    The Levy County Drug Task Force — acting on tips from the public and provided through Crime Stoppers — located and dismantled a methamphetamine lab in the Ocala Highlands West area and arrested a Morriston man. More arrests are expected in the case.

    The actions came in its investigation of individuals making and selling meth, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office reports the following arrests:

    • Feb. 12, Stephen Michael Baker, 23, Inglis, battery on law enforcement officer.

    • Feb. 11, Tamara Cournoyer, 41, Cedar Key, DUI, battery on officer, R/WV.

    • Feb. 14, Joe Nelson Davis Jr., 39, Cross City, out of county warrant.

    • Feb. 11, James Anthony Elder, 60, Old Town, taking deer or turkey with gun and light, firing weapon from a vehicle, possession of weapon or ammo by a convicted felon. Bond $85,000.

  • Sheriff seeks help in solving shooting

    Investigators are appealing once again to the residents of East Williston to come forward with information or a gun used in a shooting on Friday, Feb. 6, at about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 318 and U.S. Highway 27A.

    Arrested in the shooting is Robert Junior Rives, 37, who is charged with five counts of aggravated assault, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bond is $400,000. Rives is the brother of a victim in a still unsolved fatal shooting in 2014.

    • Feb. 4, Stephanie Ann Carlisle, 21, Bronson, VOP.

    • Feb. 6, Kenneth Elliott Craner, 49, Ocala, out of county warrant. Bond $11,000.

    • Feb. 4, Jimmie Lee Donald, 55, Chiefland, FTA.

    • Feb. 7, Deanna Marie Drew, 29, Chiefland, retail theft, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Bond $5,000.

  • Man accused of molesting child at church

    The Levy and Dixie County Sheriff's Offices and U.S. Marshal’s Regional Domestic Fugitive Task Force arrested an Old Town man on Thursday, Feb. 5, on a charge of lewd and lascivious battery of a person under 16.

    Joseph Louis Moscato, 67, was arrested at his home on Northeast 673 St, after LCSO obtained the warrant.

  • Accidents kill 3, injure 19 others

    Three accidents on Levy County roads this past weekend resulted in three deaths — including an 8-month-old baby. Nineteen others were sent to Shands Hospital and Shands Pediatrics in Gainesville and Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol and Levy County Department of Public Safety.

  • Driver serious following in wreck in Raleigh

    A Clermont man was transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville in serious condition after his truck went off U.S. Highway 41 about 1 mile north of County Road 335 in the Raleigh community on Wednesday at 5:23 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

    Yovanni Fernandez, 42, of Clermont, was driving his 2007 box truck northbound on U.S. 41 when the vehicle veered across the highway and onto the west shoulder striking a tree.

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office reports the following arrests:

    • Jan. 23, Frank M. Akins, 35, Bronson, hit and run leaving scene of accident involving damage to property. Bond $5,000.

    • Jan. 23, Johnnie Russell Arnett, 31, Inglis, possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted felon, dealing in stolen property. Bond $75,000.

    • Jan. 19, Justin Henry Bailey, 21, Bronson, petit theft. Bond $1,500.

    • Jan. 22, Corddarryl Devon Bell, 24, Gainesville, DWLSR. Bond $1,000.
