  • Woman sentenced in motorcyclist death

    It was almost two years to the day of a fatal accident south of Chiefland that caused the death of motorcyclist Marvin Hancock that Imogene Swafford was sentenced on a charge of negligent vehicular manslaughter.

    On Wednesday, Circuit Judge Stanley Griffis III meted out three years and six months in prison, followed by two years community custody and eight years of drug offender probation. She will receive credit for serving seven months and 22 days in jail.

  • Parks employee gets probation

    A Levy County Parks and Recreation Department employee has been sentenced to three years probation on a felony charge of swindling the county out of $5,797.63 between May 2009 and December 2012.

  • Sheriff hosting a DUI event Saturday

    From the Levy County Sheriff's Office:

    On Saturday, May 25, the Levy County Sheriffs Office and Chiefland Police Department will be hosting a multi-agency DUI, driver's license vehicle safety checkpoint on Northwest 14 Street in the area of Northwest 22nd Avenue from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

    This is part of a statewide effort to crack down on impaired driving over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

    Drivers are asked to have their insurance, registration and drivers license ready when entering the checkpoint.

     n Loren Rickey Eckblad, felony battery changed to battery, adjudication withheld, 1 year probation. Must pay probation cost.

  • FHP graduates 59 new troopers

    TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Highway Patrol’s 59 newest troopers from the 124th Basic Recruit Class graduated from the Florida Highway Patrol Academy on May 9 — five weeks earlier than previous classes due to an accelerated program. 

  • Bronson woman injured in single car wreck

    A Bronson woman was critically injured when the tires on the left side of the pickup she was driving southbound on US 27A/State Road 500 went off the road into the median causing it to spin and later roll over, ejecting the driver, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    n Timothy Wade Arnold, driving while license revoked for habitual traffic offenses and failing to leave information on unattended vehicle with damage, nolle pros; battery, 12 months probation. Must pay probation cost.

  • Bronson man accepts 5-year plea in burglary

    Bronson resident Timothy L. Cobb, 40, on May 8, accepted a court-negotiated plea for five years imprisonment on charges dealing with burglaries and thefts in Bronson, according to the Levy County Sheriff's Office.

       Cobb was arrested in February in connection with a string of burglaries after a two month investigation by the sheriff's office. Cobb, who has a long history with the sheriff's office, had recently been released from his third stint in prison, according to LCSO.
