  • Bronson may change direction with school board

    Despite "hurt feelings" and a unanimous vote by Bronson Town Council members April 1 to forego any more dealings with the Levy County School Board on the use or purchase of the Old Bronson High School Gym, a deal now seems to be in the works.

  • County aims to collect more EMS bills

    The Levy County Commission, looking to gain more money in how it bills customers of its Emergency Medical Services, has approved a new contractor to handle the bills and payments. 

  • Levy FFA members bring home awards

    The results are in for Florida FFA competitions and the Levy County Fair competition and the news is good for teams from Levy County. 

    The CHS Senior FFA livestock judging team, made up of Harold Tillis, Payton Parnell, Kinsey Denee' Ward and Emily Diane Smith, came in second in the 2013 Livestock CDE State Finals. Williston High School came in an No. 8 and Bronson rounded out the Top 10 performances by coming in No. 10. 
    The CHS Senior FFA also placed 10th in the 2013 State Poultry CDE.

  • Fanning to hold ceremony for new wastewater plant

    The City of Fanning Springs will be holding a dedication ceremony for the city's new wastewater treatment facility on Earth Day, April 22, at 11:30 a.m. A tour of the plant, located at 9218 S.W. SR 26, will take place at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

    The Levy County School Board the the teachers' union, the Levy Educations Association, are at odds over whether a contract for the 2011-12 school year can be implemented.

    Chiefland commissioners approved unanimously Monday night on first reading an ordinance that sets new guidelines for the placement of monuments at City Hall.

  • Parks employee fired in theft investigation

    An employee with the Levy County Parks and Recreation Department has been terminated and arrested on a felony charge of swindling the county out of $5,797.63 between May 2009 and December 2012.

  • Quilt Museum escapees recaptured

    Two Department of Corrections inmates attempted to escape Tuesday from an inmate crew working at the Levy County Quilt Museum at approximately 11:30 a.m. but were recaptured before their lunch break was over.

    Arrested and booked for escape were Tyler A. Benoit, 19, and Brian K. Duncan, who turns 19 on Thursday, April 11.

    The work crew had stopped for lunch at the museum as the crew has done for many years. The late Ms. Winelle Horne dedicated many years to assisting the youthful offenders and had offered her home/museum as a weekly gathering place.
