    School play Thursday-Saturday
    The Chiefland Middle School students will present their annual play with performances Thursday, May 10, through Saturday, May 12, at 7 nightly at the Chiefland High School Auditorium.
    Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for everyone else.

  • Workforce Connection's mobile unit working

    Workforce Connection, the agency that helps Levy County residents find employment, has released the numbers on its work by the mobile unit that visits cities and towns in the county.

  • AG seeks ideas on distribution of $300 million housing settlement

    TALLAHASSEE—Attorney General Pam Bondi is asking the public to make suggestions on how best to distribute approximately $300 million recovered on behalf of Florida’s consumers in the national mortgage servicing settlement. Through Monday, May 14, at 5 p.m., the public can submit suggestions to the Attorney General’s Office by visiting MyFloridaLegal.com.

  • Library friends meet Thursday

       The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library  Board of Directors, will hold their monthly meeting at the Library, 104 NE 3rd Street, Chiefland (a block behind City Hall), at 11 a.m. today.

  • 21 arrested in Inglis, Williston drug raids

    In two days the Levy County Sheriff's Drug Task Force, the Inglis Police Department and the Citrus County Sheriff's Department swooped in on residences in Inglis and Williston arresting 21 people on a variety of drug charges.
    The raid at noon Thursday in Inglis wrapped up a two-and-a-half-year investigation, while the Williston raid on Friday came in an area where other arrests have been made.

  • School custodian arrested on campus gun charge

    A tip that a Williston Elementary School custodian had guns in his vehicle parked on campus has led to the arrest of Dennis W. Solowski on Thursday, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
    Sheriff's school resource deputy Grant Sandlin received information, located Solowski's vehicle parked at the school and interviewed Solowski at the school.

  • Bronson town barn burgled

    About $2,300 worth of brass fittings and tools were stolen from Bronson's public works facility, located near the Old Bronson High School, according to the Levy County Sheriff's Office.
    The theft was reported by town employees May 3 after discovering a steel door on the facility ripped from its hinges.
    "One of my guys went over to get something, called me and said, 'Jimmy, somebody's broken the door off the thing,' " said Jimmy Dunford, public works administrator for the town.

    n April 30, Kevin Eugene Dowell, 38, Bronson, DUI and serious bodily injury to another. Bond $5,000.
    n May 4, Jeremy Dylan Drake, 19, Bronson, VOP.

  • Hinote seeks District 2 seat on school board

    My name is Billy Hinote and I am a candidate for Levy County School Board District 2 and would like to let you know a few things about me.
    I have resided in Levy County for 42 years. I graduated from Chiefland High School in 1978. Then I went to the IBEW Local 349 Electrical Trade School in Miami.
    I have owned and operated Hinote Electric for the past 20 years. I am also the chairman of the Levy County Construction and Industry Licensing Board.
