  • FHP issues smoke warning for Levy roads

    Smoke from a brushfire burning near Levy County Road 343 may affect portions of the following Levy County roadways: CR 343, 337, 326, 335 as well as US Alt 27, US Hwy 41and US 19/98. Motorist traveling in this area are advised to
    drive with care, by reducing their speed, watch for advisory signs and using headlights when encountering areas of reduced
    visibility. Motorist should consider an alternate route if possible. Smokey conditions in this area are expected to continue
    into the week of May 21st .

  • Congratulations to the GED graduates

    Congratulations to the latest class of graduates from the adult education program at the College of Central Florida Levy Center. Eleven students received their high school diplomas during commencement on Thursday at Tommy Usher Center in Chiefland.

    CF President Dr. James Henningsen addressed the graduates, a first for any class of the college.

  • Correction: Bronson homemakers bingo on Thursday

    An incorrect date was publiched in the May 17 issue of the Chiefland Citizen for the Bronson Home and Community Educators club's annual bingo

    The event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at the Levy County Extension Center. The cost is $5 for two cards and $1 for two additional cards.
    The club will provide drinks and dessert and there wil be prizes. For more information, call Dee Olsen at 486-2319.

  • Levy's jobless rate drops to 8.9 percent

    Levy County's jobless rate was down to 8.9 percent in April, a figure not seen since November 2008 — 41 months, and down from 9.4 percent in March and 10.5 percent a year earlier, according to Workforce Connection, the state's employment agency serving Citrus, Levy and Marion counties.

  • State begins purging voter rolls of non-citizens

    TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of State is partnering with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to identify non-citizens who are on voter rolls. Florida’s Department of State recently sent the information on more than 2,600 potential non-citizens to Florida’s 67 Supervisors of Elections for review and, if warranted, removal from voter rolls.
