  • Archer men face drug charges

    Two Archer men who made a deal to sell cocaine and a shotgun to a drug task force informant tried the old bait-and-switch routine using crack cocaine and no gun, but they were still arrested on a variety of drug charges Wednesday, Oct. 24, by the Levy County Joint Drug Task Force, according to a Sheriff's Office press release

  • Political season in Levy ends Tuesday

    The speeches and sign waving should all end Tuesday — at least for Levy County voters and local candidates. But a large number of folks are being heard early. 

  • Little ones get flu mist this week

    The Levy County Health Department is not taking any chances with a possible flu outbreak and is administering flu mist to students in the county's schools this week and next. 

  • Bronson grass fire squelched

    A column of gray smoke swirled over part of Bronson Wednesday as firefighters from several area departments fought and squelched a grass fire about a ½ mile north of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office along Northeast 80th Avenue.

    “They were able to get here in just enough time to control it,” Levy County Department of Public Safety Capt. Clayton Drew said of firefighters from the Florida Forest Service Williston, Bronson and county fire departments.

  • County OKs employee bonus

    County workers — full, part-time and oncall — who save their department or the county money will be eligible for a bonus under a plan adopted Wednesday morning in a special meeting by the Levy County Commission.

    The commission, which first discussed the idea of giving a $600 one-time payment to full-time county workers at its Oct. 16 meeting, found that state law prohibits giving workers a bonus without going through a process of setting standards for earning and evaluating the awarding of bonuses.

  • Brush fire on CR 337

    Firefighters from Levy County and Florida Forestry Service are responding to a report of a brush fire on County Road 337, about 1/2 mile north of the Levy County Sheriff's Office and Jail. 

    The road has not been closed off to traffic, but drivers may want to take an alternate route to their destination.

  • Suwannee Fair building comes down

    Work on demolishing the Suwannee River Livestock Show and Sale arena, better known as the Suwannee River Fair building, started this week. Dust flew as the huge claw grabbed the side of the quonzet style area area and pulled it down, along with the front plate that proclained the building's name. Work wll begin soon on a new building, being donated by Dixie County businessman Joe Anderson Jr., that is expected to be finished in time for the 2013 show and sale.
