  • One dead, one hurt in one-car crash

    A Kentucky man died and his passenger was injured when the 2003 Subaru Outback they were riding in on U.S. Highway 27A veered off the road by Northesast 151st Terrace at 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.
    Dead is David G. House, 81, of Avaton, Ky., the driver, and injured was Betty G. House, 80, also of Avaton, Ky. She was airlifted to Shands Hospital at the University of Florida and was reported in critical condition.

  • No Toys For Tots this year

    Christmas could be bleak for many children this year because the county's largest distributor of toys to families in need is no longer in business — in Levy or Gilchrist counties.
    Most folks, when contacted to ask about some organization taking up the slack admit they had no idea Toys for Tots was no longer serving Levy County.
    And there is little likelihood anyone one or any group can make up the time to pull off a successful Christmas toy distribution this year.

  • Go further with White Ford and help Haven Hospice

     

    White Ford Company, Inc., is sponsoring “Go Further with Ford Night” today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the dealership on U.S. Highway 19 with proceeds benefitting Haven Hospice of North Central Florida.

    For each person who attends the event, White Ford will donate $10, up to a total of $500, to Haven Hospice. The event is the closing act in the Random Acts of Fusion adventure hosted by celebrity Ryan Seacrest.

  • LARC cleans house

    The Levy ARC Thrift Store is having its annual Clean Sweep sale on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be lots of bargains. 

       The store will also be selling fish dinners for $6 each. The meal includes fried mullet, baked beans, cole slaw and hush puppies.

  • School board interviewing attorneys

     

    The School Board of Levy County will conduct interviews to select a new school board attorney on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m.

    The following law firms are being considered: Dell/Graham, P.A., Norm Fugate, P.A., and Ronald W. Stevens, P.A.

    The position is open due to the election of current Board Attorney Sheree Lancaster to Levy County Court judgeship.

    The students at Chiefland High School held their presidential straw poll at the same time as voting for the 2012 Homecoming queen, king, prince and princess on Thursday, Oct. 25.
