    The Kolomoki Society will hold its 4th annual fossil and artifact show Saturday at the Tommy Usher Pineland Center, in Chiefland, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Woman dies after accident

    A Chiefland woman is dead as the result of an accident on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on Northwest 55th Avenue, two miles north of County Road 330, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release. 

    Jo-Ann Braswell Bailey, 66, died at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

    She was driving a 2003 Pontiac mini-van southbound on Northwest 55th Avenue as William A. Graden, 28, of Chiefland was attempting to back a 1997 Freightliner semi and flatbed from the northbound lane into a driveway. 

  • Monday P.M. burn, smoke, burn updates

    CHIEFLAND

    A prescribed burn started on 800 acres in part of Manatee Springs State Park at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28. Drivers and residents in the area are asked to be cognizant of conditions.

  • FHP issues notice of burn on SR 121/U.S. 19

     A prescribed burn is being conducted in Levy County located at SR-121 and US 19. The Florida Highway Patrol is monitoring road conditions in the area of SR-121, US-19 and CR-337. Conditions may require motorists to take alternate routes. The potential of smoke/fog type conditions may increase during the evening and early morning hours. Motorists traveling in areas with reduced visibility are advised to use caution by reducing their speed and use headlights on low beam. Possibility of low visibility conditions are expected to continue through the weekend.

  • Body found by hunter identified

     The body found east of Otter Creek by hunters on Friday afternoon has been identified that of DeAnna Lee Stires, 18,  of Brooksville who was reported missing on Jan. 1, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
