     A Teen Driver Improvement Program is being offered to all Levy County students who have a  license or learners permit or who are about to get their learners permit by the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Community Relations Division.

  • Sex offender arrested after teen found at home

    Jakarr Tavaris White, of Cross City, a registered sex offender serving a five-year probation for sexual battery on a person under age 15, was arrested again on Friday, May 31, after the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office located a 13-year-old runaway juvenile from Levy County at his home.

  • Proposed Levy nuclear plant could have joint owners

    When its retirement came, the Crystal River nuclear plant had 10 owners, with Duke Energy the majority holder. A similar arrangement could be used for the planned Levy County nuclear plant.

    Having a share of the Crystal River nuclear plant, even as small as the .04 percent owned by the city of Bushnell, carried an obligation to maintain a decommissioning trust fund, according to the participation agreement.

  • Heavy rain, some flooding possible for Levy County

    Tropical Storm Andrea, packing 60 mph winds and gusts that go higher, was located at 11 a.m. at 28.2 degrees North and 84.3 degrees West. That's about 110 miles west of Tampa and about the same distance south-southeast of Apalachicola, according to the National Weather Service Advisory. 

    The storm's winds , which extend out 140 miles, are not expected to strengthen further. As it comes ashore later today the winds are expected to weaken. The rains are expected to be 3 to 6 inches in the area.

  • Coast Guard warns boaters on Tropical Storm Andrea

    ST. PETERSBURG – The Coast Guard is encouraging boaters to stay off the water Thursday due to the approach of Tropical Storm Andrea.

    Adverse weather effects generated by a tropical storm or hurricane can cover an area hundreds of miles wide. Even those recreational boaters and the maritime industry that fall outside of the direct path of the storm are advised to be cognizant of dangerous weather conditions and take appropriate precautions to stay safe and minimize damage.
