  • Levy winners at FFA convention

    The Chiefland High School Senior FFA had several members who placed in the state FFA science fair.  

  • 5 boaters rescued west of Cedar Key

     ST. PETERSBURG — Five people were rescued by the Coast Guard after the 32-foot boat they were aboard began taking on water 12 miles west of Cedar Key, Monday.

    A member aboard the boat contacted Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders at 1:31 p.m., via VHF-FM channel 16 radio reporting they had lost an engine, were taking on water and in need of assistance.

  • Woman dies at swimming hole

    A 65-year-old Raiford woman died on Saturday, June 15, while swimming with family at Bob’s River Place off of Northeast Highway 340 in Old Town.

     According to witnesses, the victim was swimming at the recreational area when she walked out onto the floating dock and jumped into the river.  When she didn’t resurface after several minutes, a family member jumped into the river and located the victim at which point he pulled her to the bank.

  • Search continues for 2 boaters off Horseshoe Beach

    The search continues for the two men missing since Saturday, June 15, off Horseshoe Beach in Dixie County, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials.

    The men were reported missing at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday. FWC and U.S. Coast Guard vessels began looking for the boat, which had been reported as overdue.

  • Farm Bureau to build "home" for FFA in Gainesville

    Florida Farm Bureau President John Hoblick has announced that the statewide organization will lead a bold partnership to build a new headquarters for the Florida FFA Association, according to a press release from the Farm Bureau. The facility will be constructed on Florida Farm Bureau’s campus in Gainesville.

  • Traffic fatality is 9th for 2013

    A Morriston man is dead and a Williston woman is hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash on Wednesday shortly before 11 p.m. on State Road 121 south of County Road 464, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

    Brian Rodgers, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene by Levy County Emergency Medical Service personnel.

  • Crab Fest suspect indicted

    Devonte Tremaine Ocasio, who turned 20 on Tuesday, was formally re-arrested on Tuesday on a six-count indictment delivered by a Levy County Grand Jury on Friday afternoon.

    Ocasio is charged in the death of Barry Barney, 36, who died after being shot at the Williston Crabfest. Four other people were injured in the shooting on April 27.

    Recently, employees of Central Florida Electric Cooperative, Inc. donated materials and several days worth of work to help make the ARC of Levy County (ARC) a little bit nicer.

  • Republicans meet Monday

    The Levy County Republican Executive Committee meets Monday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Bronson Restaurant on U.S. 27A in Bronson. 

       The meeting will begin with food and fellowship, followed by a business session at 7 p.m.

  • Auditions for SVP production

    “Blithe Spirit,” written by  winner of the 2009 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival Noel Coward, will be coming to the Chief Theatre, home of the Suwannee Valley Players.
