  • Chiefland man charged in armed home invasion

    A Chiefland man is among three people charged in an armed home invasion at a Williston house occupied by an 81-year-old woman and a home health care worker, according to a Levy County Sheriff’s Office press release.
    Arrested in the incident on County Road 335 — Northeast 75th Street — are Hillary "Hill" Henderson, 20, of Chiefland and Craig Allen Pitts, 20 of Morriston. Pitts, who is said to have masterminded the robbery, is the son of the home health care worker and had worked in the home as a nighttime house sitter.

    When the Bronson Chamber of Commerce needed a little injection of life to revive it a couple of years ago, Tommy Dunford was the man they handed the job.
    Mr. Dunford, whose family, friends and co-workers joked he was a man of many hats, gladly took on the job of Chamber president and started planning new activities for the group — including the Town of Bronson's first and second annual Pumpkin Festival.

     The construction crew for the new Murphy Express gas station on U.S. Highway 19 has been having fun with drivers. The price started at $5.55 and has climbed. This photo was taken on Friday, Jan. 28.  If you look closely, Murphy which brags about its discounted fuel prices, has a discount posted on the canopy above the pumps.

  • Library has new books

     The Luther Callaway Public Library is pleased to announce the arrival of 68 new children's books and 16 new math and science books for children. The new books were purchased by a grant that was funded by the Libri Foundation and The Friends Of The Luther Callaway Public Library.

  • AARP Tax-Aide begins on Friday

    Free tax preparation and E-file with AARP Tax Aide begins Friday, Feb. 4, at Luther Callaway Library in Chiefland.

    The AARP trained volunteers will be at the library on Fridays from noon to 4 p.m. until April 15, and, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays during the month of February.
