  • Circuit Judge David Glant dead at 63

    Eighth Judician Circuit Judge David Glant, 63, has died according to the court's website. He was first elected to the bench in 2002 and joined the court in 2003. 

    Glant, who is well known for presiding in Levy County. He handled circuit civil, circuit criminal, dependency, domestic violence, family and juvenile cases, and at the time of his retirement was the administrative judge for the circuit's criminal courts. He was a former assistant state attorney.

  • Pedestrian dead in accident

    Brian Douglas Larkins, 31, of Williston died Friday Oct. 18, shortly before 8:30 p.m. while walking in the northbound lane of Northeast 105th Avenue at Northeast 86th Street, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    He is the second pedestrian fatality and the 18th traffic fatality for Levy County in 2013.

    Jacob Brock Morrison, 18, of Trenton was driving a2005 Chevy Silverado pickup in the northbound lane on Northeast 105th Avenue, just north of Northeast 86th Street when the truck collided with the pedestrian.

  • Suwannee water rules delayed

    State officials have pushed back dates for setting guidelines meant to protect the quantity of water in places such as the Suwannee River.
    The Suwannee River Water Management District governing board voted unanimously Thursday at a meeting in Cedar Key in favor of allowing the establishment of minimum flows and levels (MFLs) for portions of the upper Suwannee to be held off until later next year. Middle portions of the river are still scheduled for 2015.

  • Cedar Key Light Station closed this weekend

    The Cedar Key Seafood Festival this weekend is still set, but the open house event at the Cedar Keys Light Station on Seahorse Key has been cancelled due to the federal government shutdown, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

  • Yoho statement on vote against re-opening government, debt increase

    WASHINGTON – On Oct. 16  the House of Representatives voted for a Continuing Resolution to fund the government until Jan. 15 and to extend the debt limit until Feb. 7h. The legislation passed the House of Representatives 285-144.
