  • Indians' Boyd named top basketball coach

    Chiefland Indians boys basketball coach Adam Boyd has been named the 1A Boys Basketball Coach of the Tear by a vote of his peers in the Florida Basketball Coaches Association.

    Boyd, who led the Indians to district, and regional titles this past season and the state Final Four, has been head basketball coach for three years. The team suffered only two defeats in the past season, one against a 5A school and the other against perennial title contender Malone who went on to win the state title.

  • Coming together with prayer

    The 63rd Annual National Day of Prayer was celebrated — with a prayer for the country and its citizens — on May 1 at noon at Chiefland City Hall around the flag pole out front.

       The Day of Prayer is held the first Thursday in May and was enacted by Congress in 1952 as a request that people "turn to God in prayer and meditation." It is celebrated by Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and Jews, to name but a few faiths.

  • Tri-County resource center yard sale is May 17

    The Tri-County Community Resource Center will have a yard sale and craft show on Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the John Fisher Building at the corner of Park Avenue and Main Street.

    Booth space is available for vendors for a suggested donation of $10.

    Job seekers in Levy, Dixie and Gilchrist counties are invited to attend the inaugural Tri-County Job Fair on Thursday, May 15, at the Suwannee River Shrine Club in Fanning Springs. There is no charge to participate.

  • Morriston fire sends two to hospital

    Two people were taken to the hospital in the wee hours of April 30, after a fire broke out in a Morriston mobile home, located at 18150 SE 15th St., according to the Levy County Department of Public Safety.
