  • SRWMD employee recognized for 10 years of service

       Linda Welch, of the Suwannee River Water Management District (District), was recently honored for 10 years of outstanding service. District Mission Support Director Melanie Roberts and Governing Board Chairman Don Quincey congratulated Welch at a governing board meeting June 14.

  • FEEDING THE NEEDY

     Joanna Finch, left, places a bag of food into a pile set to be distributed last Saturday at First United Methodist Church, in Chiefland. USDA provided enough food to fill about 150 bags.  The next Chiefland distribution will be in March.

  • Soil, water board meeting cancelled

    The Levy Soil and Water Conservation District Board has cancelled the monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 7,  at 6:30 p.m. at the USDA Service Center in Bronson, due to a conflicting meeting. The board will resume monthly meetings on Jan. 4, 2011.

     With Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period running through Dec. 31, now is the time for seniors to review their health care and prescription drug coverage.   Elder Options is a local source  of free information and assistance to help seniors through this important  period in Medicare.    

  • County selling limestone dragline

    Levy County will be putting its dragline up for sale, preferring to use another piece of equipment to mine and load limestone from the Gulf Hammock Pit for road construction.
    The Board of commissioners on Tuesday approved the sale at the request of Road Department Administrative Superintendent Bruce Greenlee, who said the dragline is no longer needed for the county's limerock mining operation. "We can only mine to 30 feet and we need to get rid of this," he said. "There is a lot of demand for this equipment."
