• Tops for Class of 2016

    The valedictorian, co-salutatorians and Top 10 seniors for the Class of 2016 have been announced by Chiefland Middle High School. The Valedictorian is Trevor Castell and the co-salutatorians are Lindsey Harris and Trina Tolentino.

    The other students among the Top 10, in order, are: Dilan Jones, William "Billy" Hammond, Faith Ann McClellan, Joseph Wolfe, Logan Beck, Timothy "TJ" Brice, Dakota Horlocker and Chandani "Zina" Patel.

  • Ladner retires from CF

    After a 30 year career, the provost of the College of Central Florida Levy Center is retiring.

    Marilyn Ladner’s co-workers and peers echoed the same sentiment at a retirement party for her Wednesday, Feb. 24: she will be missed.

  • Gala honors Hastings while raising $24K

    Humor, jokes and a little good natured ribbing set the tone for the 16th Annual Stars Gala presented by the Levy County Schools Foundation.

  • PTO helps teachers

    The Chiefland Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) awarded more than $3,000 in classroom grants to teachers on Monday, Feb. 8, during a faculty meeting. The recipients were:

    • The Growafrog Life Cycle Kit – Amphibian Decline Lesson, Brooke Smith, $65;

    • Core Connections Kids, Celeste Aracena, $196;

    • Classroom Computers, Clayton Allen, $300;

    • Students for Prezi, Kristin Pomeroy, $59;

    • Kindles for Book Club, Kristin Pomeroy, $282;

  • Business people needed for career day

    Chiefland Student Government is hosting a Career Day on Wednesday, March 16, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and needs local business people that are interested in speaking to students about their career field.

    The students will be in 25-minute rotations and there will be an outdoor area for businesses that have equipment or displays. Lunch will be provided.

  • Schools Foundation Gala sold out

    The Levy County Schools Foundation is presenting its “Denim & Diamonds” Stars Gala event on Saturday, Feb. 20, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Bronson Middle High School but don't expect to attend if you do not already have tickets.

    The county's biggest formal event has sold out, according to Donna Turner, the Foundation's executive director.

    The 16th annual STARS (Student, Teachers & Respected Supporters) event is an opportunity for friends of education to support the scholarship program and classroom projects.

  • The Royal Closet collects prom wear

    The Chiefland High School Health Academy is collecting donations of male and female formal wear and accessories to provide students who may be in need with the opportunity to attend the CMHS prom in April.

    Drop-off locations are the CHS and CMS front offices.

    Parents, be forewarned, there is no school on Monday, Feb. 15, in honor of President’s Day.

    The next day off for students is Monday, Feb. 22, when teachers have a district in-service.
