    n The board held a closed meeting before Tuesday's public meeting to discuss the ongoing case between the district and former employee Linda Yon.
    Yon was terminated from her position for allegedly using disparaging remarks to a student this past school year.

  • CMS gets new flowerbeds

    Chiefland Middle School was lucky to start the school year with new landscaping.  Just one week before school started, the northeast corner of CMS’s main building was bleak and barren.

    It is no surprise that Levy ARC has faced some critical financial challenges lately.  However, Executive Director, Betty Walker is determined to find ways to match up available resources to create a win-win situation for all involved.  Her latest challenge coupled LARC with the Plum Creek Foundation and the Exceptional Student Educational Program of the Levy County School District.

    The College of Central Florida is offering several new classes in the coming weeks.    Interested participants may enroll in person at the Levy Center, located at 114 Rodgers Blvd. in Chiefland, by telephone at 352-493-9533; or online at CFItraining.cf.edu (for select Levy noncredit classes).

     The College of Central Florida held graduation ceremonies for the Fall Class of 2010 on Oct. 7, at the Levy Center. The graduates included, from left to right, Amanda Driggers, Michael Careccia, Georgianna Williams, Jeffery Redwine, Raquel Perryman, and Justin Verhage.

     Last Thursday, Walmart presented several area teachers with gift bags and $100 gift cards to use for their classrooms, recognizing the teachers for their commitment to education.

    School Board of Levy County employees will have to pay a bit more for health insurance starting next year.
