    Central Florida Community College recognized 14 students who completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program at the CFCC Levy Center on Monday, Aug. 17.

  • CHS has fresh paint, seniors new parking

    Chiefland High School students will be returning to fresh paint in the hallways and classrooms and the seniors will have a new fenced in parking area, along with a new principal.

    That was the news from Principal Bill Tovine to the Chiefland Rotary Club at its August 12 meeting.

         Tovine, who succeeds Pam Asbell, said he has been busy having the school spruced up. “The buildings and sidewalls have been painted,”  he said.

  • Hastings reorganizes school system

    In an effort to streamline costs Superintendent Bob Hastings announced the elimination of eight administrative positions Tuesday, including Director of Literacy, Director of Secondary Education, Assistant Director of MIS/ Technology, Coordinator of Testing/Attendance/Truancy, Coordinator of Supplemental Educational Services, Coordinator of ESOL, Teacher on Special Assignment over Instruction/Curriculum, and Evaluation Specialist.

    "The positions are no longer there or their responsibilities have changed," Hastings told the School Board.

  • Board delays action on Lundy

    Chiefland teacher and coach Mark Lundy won't be terminated this week, after one school board member had serious misgivings about the strength of the evidence against him. At Tuesday's meeting of the Levy County School Board, Superintendent Robert Hastings asked the board to follow up on last session's action of suspending Lundy without pay, pending termination. At the current session, Hastings asked the board to proceed with termination, but Bronson board member Cameron Asbell said he wasn't ready.

    At the May 19 meeting of Levy County School Board, Superintendent Robert Hastings asked the board to suspend without pay Chiefland Elementary School Head Custodian Danny Clark for dishonesty, insubordination and non-performance of job duties until the next meeting, when he would recommend Clark's termination. At that time, Chiefland member Paige Brookins asked that the action be tabled until Tuesday's meeting to allow for review; her motion passed.
