  • Photo course offered at CFCC

    The College of Central Florida (formerly Central Florida Community College) Levy Center will offer a four-week Intermediate Digital Photography and Editing class on Tuesdays from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. beginning June 1. The class builds on the Basic Digital Photography and Editing course and is also open to students who have a working knowledge of their digital camera and basic photo editing software. The class will explore more advanced camera settings and delves into Photoshop Elements as a digital editing tool.

  • CFCC to celebrate name change at Levy Center May 26

       Central Florida Community College will officially become the College of Central Florida on Tuesday, May 25, and a celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 26, at 9 a.m. at the CFCC Levy Center, 114 Rodgers Blvd. in Chiefland.

       The name change follows a year-long process that included a survey of the community, approval by the CFCC District Board of Trustees and the State Board of Education. During the five-week survey, 580 distinct names were sorted from 1,480 submissions.

  • Chiefland graduate recognized at Santa Fe

    Chiefland High School graduate Roger Sliney was selected as a Santa Fe College Ambassador for the next school year.

    Sliney was recognized as one of the top students at Santa Fe and passed an intense interview process to be picked as one of the top representatives of the school.

    Sliney joins 15 other students from throughout the state to be part of the Student Ambassador Program.

    In the three-round interview process, candidates went through group interviews, individual presentations and interviews and teamwork activites.

  • Night of Excellence honors schools finest

    As school starts to s-l-o-w-l-y wind to a close, awards, scholarships and honors start coming students way.

    But the first academic awards were bestowed at the "Night of Excellence" hosted by the Levy County Schools Foundation and the Levy County School Board at Bronson Elementary School on the evening of April 22.

  • Summer registration open at St. Leo University Gilchrist Center

    Registration for the summer term that begins May 3 is under way at Saint Leo University in Trenton.   

    Courses will be available both onsite and online. The Gilchrist Center courses include elementary education and religion.  Online courses include psychology, criminal justice, business administration,  computer information systems, healthcare management,  social work and more.

    course offered

    The Central Florida Community College Levy Center will offer a four-week Basic Digital Photography and Editing course beginning May 4. The class will meet Tuesdays from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the Levy Center, 114 Rodgers Blvd., Chiefland. The course fee is $79.

    Florida Governor Charlie Crist vetoed a controversial education bill last week, but according to School Board of Levy County Superintendent Robert Hastings, more controversial legislation is likely to pass without much notice.

    n CFCC To present "35 Years Later: Good bye Vietnam"

    Central Florida Community College will present “35 Years Later: Good-Bye Vietnam,” a retrospective and contemporary look at the era through the eyes of former and current CFCC employees and author Alivia Tagliaferri.

    The event will be held on Tuesday, April 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Webber Center at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road, and is a Global Conversations presentation of the CFCC Council for Diversity and Global Understanding.

    Memoir writing course at CFCC Levy Center   The Central Florida Community College Levy Center will offer a class for aspiring authors in April. Memoir Writing: Developing and Refining Your Story is for anyone who has begun writing a memoir and is looking for help in developing and organizing their story. Participants will learn to narrow their subject and how to insert information that will create more relevant and interesting characters. The class will meet on Mondays, April 5-26, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The course fee is $65.
