    n  CF sessions on training grants
       The CF Institute at the College of Central Florida, Workforce Connection and Marion County Economic Development Corporation will offer free information sessions on for-profit grant opportunities.
       Attendees will learn how to apply for Quick Response Training grants available from Workforce Connection and Incumbent Worker Training and Employed Worker Training grants available from Workforce Florida.

    According to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumers Services, Florida has nearly 24 million acres of forests, croplands and ranches, and the products produced on these lands have a big impact on the economy. Over 200 Kindergarten students from Chiefland Elementary School and Whispering Winds Charter School learned some of their first lessons about Florida Agriculture at the Chiefland FFA Land Lab when the Middle and High School FFA students hosted their 8th Annual “Fun Day on the Farm.”

  • Secrets unearthed during archaeology month

    March is Florida Archaeology Month sponsored by the Florida Anthropological Society and its partners that protect archaeological sites throughout the state. Each year the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge hosts walks at its Shell Mound site made famous by the spectacular collection of pottery in Bradenton’s South Florida Museum.
    The last of two Ranger-led walks at Shell Mound is 10 a.m. March 25. Meet the Ranger in the small parking area next to the Shell Mound Trailhead to learn the history of the mound, its native people and native plants.

  • CES rallies for the FCAT

    The fourth grade classes at Chiefland Elementary School rallied Monday afternoon as their studies for the writing skills portion of the FCAT came to an end. 

  • Congressional art contest accepting student entries

     U.S. Rep. Rich Nugent (R-District 5) and U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-District 6) are accepting entries for the annual Congressional Art Competition, a national art contest for high-school students.

  • Metalsmiths

     The first industry certifications were recently awarded to four students in the new Welding Program at Chiefland High School.  The students earned their AWS D 1.1 Structural Welding Code-Steel certification and one student earned both the D 1.1 and 1.2 certifications.  The students were tested by WELDTEST Services and are under the instruction of Steve Senters.
