  • Scholarship Showdown benefits Gilchrist schools

    The Education Foundation of Gilchrist County is hosting a Scholarship Showdown on Friday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Suwannee River Fair Arena on U.S. Highway 19 in Fanning Springs.

    All proceeds go toward scholarships. Tickets are $100 each and only 300 tickets will be sold. They are on sale at the Gilchrist County Courthouse, Ameris Bank in Gilchrist County, Capital City Bank in Trenton and Bell, and Drummond Community Bank.

  • Stuff the Bus for Levy schools Aug. 2

     Several years ago the Levy County Schools Foundation began the program, “Stuff the Bus” to benefit our county’s public schools, teachers, staff and students by collecting a variety of school supplies to be distributed to each school.    

  • Epic End of Summer Bash on Saturday, Aug. 9

    The 4th Annual Epic End of Summer Bash, a free event to help the community get ready for the coming school year, will be on Saturday, Aug. 9.

    Booth space is available and those wishing to pass out information or school supplies, to volunteer or to donate prizes, call 352-493-4627 or email office@fumcchiefland.com.

    The event also offers family fun with exhibits from public safety agencies and activities for children including a dunk booth and water slide. There will be free food, activities, back packs, school supplies, prizes, fun and information plus much more.

  • Rotary scholar

    Sarah Edison, standing, attended the Chiefland Rotary Club meeting on June 25 with her father, club member Jeff Edison, and thanked the members for awarding her the Jim Easley Scholarship.

    Miss Edison is studying agriculture communications at the University of Florida.

  • Chiefland HOSA attends state convention

    Chiefland Middle High School's HOSA Academy attended the 2014 State Convention in Orlando. Attendees included Zena Patel, Trina Tolentino, Annie Tolentino, Joli Birchfield, Kaitlyn Kantor, David Hallman, William Reiff, Natalia Prince, Ryan Martin, Krista Biehl and Dylan Jones.

    It's that time of year, high school graduation in Levy County. The Class of 2014 is walking down the aisle to pick up diplomas and begin a new stage of life in college, enjoying summer or going to work.

    A few Chiefland High School students, with the help of teachers and a few government agencies, are taking the health of Florida's springs to heart.

    Ever dream of having your principal or teacher from Chiefland Elementary School prepare dinner for you and your schoolmates? Now’s your chance to assign the homework and help out CES.

    The principal and faculty will be serving dinar at the McDonald's in Chiefland tonight (Monday, May 19, between 6 and 8 p.m.

    Head to McDonald’s at 1415 N. Young Blvd. Have a meal, have some fun and help contribute to a good cause. McD's will donate 20 percent of all sales during this time will be donated to the school.
