  • Chiefland businesses to get safety inspections

    The City of Chiefland will begin inspecting businesses May 2 to ensure commercial businesses within city limits are in compliance with codes set by the National Fire Protection Association, according to the city's Building and Zoning Director Bill Hammond.
    "It's been around for quite some time," Hammond said about the Life Safety Code, "we just haven't had time to get around to it."
    The inspections, free of charge, will happen yearly and will begin in alphabetical order by business name.

  • Hospice focuses on Decision

    Haven Hospice hosted a Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce mixer last week in support of National Healthcare Decisions Day. Decisions Day is a nation-wide initiative to encourage individuals to make their healthcare choices known to family, friends and healthcare providers.
    “One of our (Haven) goals is to educate the community about what advance directives are and their importance,” said Patrick Allen, Administrator of Haven Hospice. “We want the community to understand that advance directives are not just for people who have a life limiting illness.”

  • Chiefland insurance company recognized for growth

    Auto-Owners Insurance is pleased to announce the Nature Coast Insurance Agency, of Chiefland, has been named one of the Top 10 growth agencies for the Company in the Tallahassee Region for 2010.  
    The agency was recognized at a luncheon meeting in Tallahassee and at a reception with all regional associates, where they and other recipients were presented with a plaque commemorating their accomplishment.  The Nature Coast Insurance Agency has represented Auto-Owners since 1988.

    Saturday, April 2, was the grand opening of Custom Accessories. More than 100 motorcycle riders showed up to help celebrate and participate in the first poker run, which raised $800 for breast cancer. Owner Ron Cordes wants to thank all those who came out.

       In honor of National Healthcare Decisions Day, Haven Hospice is partnering with the Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce to host a mixer at 5:30 p.m. today at the Tri-Counties Hospice Care Center, 311 N.E. 9th St., Chiefland. The event is open to chamber members.

  • State, local training available for businesses

       The College of Central Florida CF Institute, Workforce Connection and Marion County EDC are sponsoring an informational session for businesses in Citrus, Levy and Marion counties on how to apply for or obtain Quick Response Training, Incumbent Worker Training and Employed Worker Training grants.
    The session is 8-11 a.m Thursday, April 7 at three locations:
