  • Levy begins summertime creep

    Every year at this time — even in the good years — Levy County's unemployment starts to creep upwards. It starts in May and continues through June, July, then starts to level off or go down by September.
    And this year is no different.
    In May, Levy County’s labor force increased by 210 to 16,982, employment went up by 165 jobs to 15,445 and the number of unemployed rose by 45 to 1,537, according to figures released by Workforce Connection, the state's employment and career agency serving Levy, Marion and Citrus counties.

  • Chiefland Chamber welcomes new members

       The Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce met on Friday, May 25, at noon in the Community Room of the Have Hospice of the Tri-Counties Care Center at 311 N.E. 9th St, Chiefland.
       New members of the organization inculde: Gentiva Home Health of Trenton, HardisonInk.com, Nature Coast Insurance, Inc., Uniques Furniture & Collectables and Mya’s Noodle House.

  • Complete Sleep ribbon cutting

    Jason Kennedy, center with scissors, cuts the ribbon at Complete Sleep & Furnishings as the Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce  welcomes the business's investment in the Chiefland community. In addition to bedding and furniture, the store also sells locally crafted swings, rocking chairs and tables suitable for spending lazy afternoons on the porch. Kennedy also has a store in Williston.

  • Suburban Propane acquires Tru Gas parent Inergy, L.P.

    WHIPPANY, N.J. — Suburban Propane Partners, L.P. announced April 26 that it has reached a definitive agreement with Inergy, L.P. Inergy GP, LLC and Inergy Sales & Service, Inc.,which operates Tru Gas in Levy County,  to acquire the sole membership interest in Inergy Propane, LLC, now owned by Inergy.

  • Workforce Connection's mobile unit working

    Workforce Connection, the agency that helps Levy County residents find employment, has released the numbers on its work by the mobile unit that visits cities and towns in the county.

  • AG seeks ideas on distribution of $300 million housing settlement

    TALLAHASSEE—Attorney General Pam Bondi is asking the public to make suggestions on how best to distribute approximately $300 million recovered on behalf of Florida’s consumers in the national mortgage servicing settlement. Through Monday, May 14, at 5 p.m., the public can submit suggestions to the Attorney General’s Office by visiting MyFloridaLegal.com.

  • CNA course at CF Levy Center

    The College of Central Florida will offer a Certified Nursing Assistant course at the Levy Center beginning in May.
       This program prepares the individual for work as a nursing assistant in nursing homes and prepares students to take the Florida CNA exam. The course consists of classroom instruction as well as lab practice and clinical experience.

  • Levy unemployment takes a plunge

     

    Levy County residents has some success finding jobs in February as the unemployment rate for that month was 10.1 percent, down from 10.5 percent in January, according to a Workforce Connection press release.

  • Levy jobless rate in January: 10.5

    If history is to be believed, the unemployment figures for Levy County have not been this good since early 2009 when they started climbing, and again in April 2011 when they started trending down from 12 percent mark to January's 10.5 percent.
    Levy County's jobless rate for January, which was released by the state on Tuesday, was 10.5 percent, down from December's revised 10.6 percent rate. The last time it was 10.5 percent was April 2011 and February 2009.
