  • Chamber seeks business nominations

    The Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce is making plans for the Annual Industry Banquet where it will honor the 2013 Businesses of the Year.

    This year’s Banquet will be on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Tommy Usher Center, with the program beginning at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The theme for the banquet is “Red, White & Blue Jeans”. The public is invited to submit a nomination for the 2013 Business of the Year and to attend the banquet.

  • Levy residents finding jobs

    The jobless rate for Levy County residents dropped 0.6 percentage points to 8.4 percent in February —  the lowest it has been since November 2008 according to a press release by the state's labor contractor. 

  • January jobless numbers up, still lower than in past

    The number of unemployed people in Levy County rose during January by three-tenths of a percent from December, bringing the county's unemployment rate to 9 percent, according to Workforce Connection, the region's reemployment agency. 

  • Drummond-Perkins merger complete on Monday

    Levy County's two remaining community banks — Perkins State Bank and Drummond Community Bank — are in the final steps of completing the merger they announced in June 2012.

     The 2012 Citizen of the Year Annual Awards Banquet, hosted by the Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce, is Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Tommy Usher Community Center.

  • Good news on job front for Levy

    What a difference two years makes.

    Two years ago the Levy County unemployment rate for January was 13 percent, the highest it had been for the county since April 2008 when it was 5.2 percent and started growing.

    In November 2008 it hit 8.9 percent and kept moving up until two years ago.

  • White Ford rejuvenating

    While White Ford is hosting the 2013 Fusion event this evening, the folks at the dealership would like to say they are doing a little re-investment in the business and residents can keep an eye out for good things.
    Don Barrett, general manager, said the dealership that has been in business for 58 years, is also getting an upgrade from the founders, the White family, and has plans to move ahead.
    The entire auto industry took a severe hit with the economic downturn in 2008. And while General Motors and Chrysler took the federal auto bailout money, Ford Motor Co. did not.

  • Go further with White Ford and help Haven Hospice

     

    White Ford Company, Inc., is sponsoring “Go Further with Ford Night” today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the dealership on U.S. Highway 19 with proceeds benefitting Haven Hospice of North Central Florida.

    For each person who attends the event, White Ford will donate $10, up to a total of $500, to Haven Hospice. The event is the closing act in the Random Acts of Fusion adventure hosted by celebrity Ryan Seacrest.
