  • Clam Task Force Meeting

    The Statewide Clam Industry Task Force is made up of representatives from the various shellfish growing areas in Florida. Their last meeting of the year will be held at the Community Center in Cedar Key on Wednesday, October 14.  

    Agenda items include Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference issues, implementation of consent of use for aquaculture docks, Working Waterfronts legislation, development of a CARES program for clam growers through the Suwannee River Partnership, and more. In addition, there will be status reports given from each growing area.

  • Chamber News

    Bronson The Bronson Chamber of Commerce is having a huge Yard Sale on Saturday Oct. 17. The location will be Main Avenue at the Grass Triangle across from Affordable Solutions. The Chamber is looking for donations  and is offering 10-by-10-foot spaces to individual sellers for the day. The Chamber in partnership with the Town of Bronson will sponsor the First Bronson Pumpkin Festival on Saturday Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bronson Youth League Park.

  • Langworthy named top banking graduate

     Jason Langworthy, Perkins State Bank consumer/commercial lender, has been awarded the Florida Banker’s Association Florida School of Banking Honor Graduate for the Class of 2009.  

    Each year, the FBA Florida School of Banking presents an Honor Graduate Award to a graduating senior.

    This individual is chosen from the top 10 percent of the class by the program directors and staff.

        Amedisys Home Health Care announced the opening of its office at 108 NW 3rd Avenue in Chiefland to service Levy, Dixie and Gilchrist counties.

        The agency be headed by Susan Bitson, and will offer a complete menu of home care services.

  • Team Levy considers 9 ways to grow economically

    There are nine areas of potential economic growth for Levy County.   

    John Adams, president and chief executive officer of Enterprise Florida, who was one of two key speakers at a Team Levy meeting on Aug. 13, said, “We’re trying to look over the horizon just a little bit to see where those target markets are.”

  • Local farmer honored

    Jack Meeks of Chiefland was among 26 Suwannee and Santa Fe River Basin farmers and ranchers who were recognized for their superior natural resource stewardship during the 9th Annual CARES dinner held at the Dwight Stansel farm in Suwannee County on June 25.

    These agricultural producers have implemented verifiable state-of-the-art management strategies known as Best Management Practices (BMPs) on their properties in the basin.

  • Huddle House earns award

    Chiefland's Huddle House restaurant has been honored as the best in the South Region.

    The local store received a $5,000 check from Mike Weimer, CEO, and is eligible for the overall "Best of the Best" honor which will be presented at a convention in Orlando this weekend.

    The top award is $15,000.

    Earnest Burch has been the manager of the store for about nine months, but has been with Huddle House for 10 years "off and on." The "off" part included a stint with the U.S. Army during which time he was stationed in Germany.
