  • New business for Fanning

     The Fanning Springs Chamber and Fanning Springs Mayor Cheryl Nekola welcome a new business, Discount Food Mart & .99 store on U.S. Highway 19.  The business is operated by Mohammed and Rabeya Rahim. They also have a store in Bronson. Rabeya Rahim manages the one in Fanning Springs. The Rahims have also joined the Fanning Springs Chamber of Commerce.   • Palms Medical Group gets new chief exutive officer

    Palms Medical Group is proud to announce its new chief executive officer, Anita Riels.  Riels is a 2000 graduate of the University of Florida and has been employed as the chief finance officer of Trenton Medical Center Inc. since 2001.   Trenton Medical Center Inc. was renamed Palms Medical Group in April.  There are seven Palms Medical Group community health centers in North Florida. Riels is replacing the late P. DeWayne Yates, who lost his battle with leukemia in February of this year. Riels was interim chief executive officer, during Yates’ illness.

  • TMC Pediatrics becomes Palm Medical Group

     The name of the former TMC Pediatrics changed to Palms Medical Group on April 26. In addition, all affiliated offices in Branford, Bell, Williston, Trenton and Gainesville will also share the Palms Medical Group name.

    “We’re looking forward to becoming a more unified organization under the Palms Medical Group name,” said Anita Reils, Interim Chief Executive Officer. “The new name will help us be more recognizable in our communities and show the strength and size of  our health care system,” she said.

  • Cross City has new radio station

    Staff report

    Suncoast Radio, Inc. of Cross City has started broadcasting as WZCC at 1240 AM with broadcasts covering Dixie County and portions of Levy and Gilchrist counties and its new owner says it should sound familiar.

    The new station replaces WYNY, which suffered a major transmitter failure nearly a year ago and went off the air.

  • Fanning Springs annual chamber banquet

    About 40 people attended last week’s Annual Banquet of the Fanning Springs Chamber of Commerce – the highlight of which was most notably the recognition of its Business Longevity Award.

    Outgoing Chamber President, Becky Sanford, presented the award to Joe Mercer, owner and operator of Suwannee River Brake & Tire. Mercer, who opened his business in 1978, was recognized as being the longest continuous, original business owner in Fanning Springs.

    Bell chosen president for 2010

    Nancy Bell of Bell & Westbury Accounting, has been chosen by the Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors to lead the group in 2010 as president.

    The election of Bell, a Levy County Commissioner and chairman of the commission, was announced at the Chamber's last official meeting of the year on Oct. 23.

    The Greater Area Chiefland Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a ribbon cutting and grand opening  for one of its newest members The Hop Shop.  On Saturday, Oct.  17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the public is invited to  join in the festivities. There will be food, fun and assorted bouncy rides for all ages. The Hop Shop will be hold the event at Trailhead park located at 22 S.E. 2nd Ave., Chiefland. The Hop Shop specializes in inflatable games, and assorted bouncy rides.

  • Kountry Kids celebrates 20 years with reunion

    Kountry Kids at 301 N.W. 10th Street will be celebrating its 20th anniversary of business with a reunion on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.

    Linda McElroy and Darlene Pearce, co-owners of the daycare and after school center, say they have averaged about  18 “graduates” per year over the past 20 years. The center provides daycare for 2, 3, and 4 year olds and afterschool care for older children,

    One feature of the open house on Saturday will be a slideshow featuring photos of the children who have gone through the center.

  • Team Levy moves from talking, to planning for county's growth

    Amanda Douglas, executive director of the Nature Coast Business Development Council, said Team Levy’s next meeting would be placing people into groups to help determine the growth strategies for the county.

    “This is actually something we can do as a plan of action, to take action,” Douglas said at the Sept. 30 Chiefland Rotary Club meeting.

    Douglas said the groups would consist of six to eight people playing “scenario games” where maps would be developed that indicate potential growth areas for the county.
