Cyclists came from all over the state and beyond to participate in the Tour de Melon, making it a record year for the event with 177 riders. Just over 200 registered for the event, but coordinators believe the threat of rain kept some away.

The watermelon themed cycling event features family friendly trail rides at 20, 40 and 60 miles long and hard core road routes at 50 and 100 miles. Hosted by the Suwannee Valley Rotary Club, the event is held annually on the first Saturday in June – this year on June 4 – in conjunction with the Chiefland Watermelon Festival.
