  • St. Alban's Episcopal Church Women are hosting their Annual $2 Ice Cream Social and Chinese Auction on Sunday, March 6 from noon to 2 p.m.

    There will be many auction items to take a chance on while enjoying the goodies.

    Tickets can be purchased at the door. The church is located 4 miles north of Walmart on U.S. Route 19.

    Library Friends meeting

    The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library (FLCPL), the Chiefland branch of the Levy County Public Library System, meet on the second Thursday of the month, except in July and August, at 11 a.m. at the library, 104 N.E. 3rd St., Chiefland.

    The Friends support the library by promoting the library’s programs and resources and through fund-raising projects to purchase reading materials, books on tape, videos, operating supplies and minor equipment.  There are no dues.

  • Shirley Fusco of the Chiefland Assembly of God sought and won the support of the Chiefland City Commission for a March for Jesus on May 7 at 10 a.m. 

    The march will follow the usual parade route on U.S. Highway 19/Main Street from Chiefland Middle High School to the Trailhead/Old Depot Park.

    Fusco said all churches are being asked to participate in the event.

  • Recent auditions for The Voice did not result in a call back for one local talent, but the outcome is not slowing him down one bit.

    For Matthew Lunsford, the experience was a spiritual one.

    "It was the calmest audition I've ever had," he said. Even the drive up to the auditions in Memphis was particularly calm.

    Lunsford felt the support and knew the people in the community were praying for him. He did not have high or low expectations, he said, but felt obedient to what God had in mind for him.

  • The Levy County Tourist Development Council will hold its bimonthly meeting on Thursday, March 3 at 6 p.m. at 620 N. Hathaway Ave., Bronson. The meeting is open to the public.

  • The AARP Driver Safety Courses for Seniors will be on March 8, April 12 and May 3 at the Haven Hospice Community Center, 311 N.E. 9th St., Chiefland.

    The one-day class starts at 9 a.m. The instructors are planning to have lots of fun and show driver strategies to stop a crash that can cause injury or death. There are no tests.

    The certificate of completion for the course is valid for a discount on automobile insurance policies for three years.

    “War Toys” exhibit reception

    The College of Central Florida Webber Gallery, 3001 S.W. College Road, is hosting the traveling exhibition “WAR-TOYS: Israel, West Bank, and Gaza Strip,” through March 18. An opening reception will be Thursday, Feb. 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Webber Center; both are free of admission.

  • Chiefland High School Class of 1996 will be celebrating their 20-year reunion on Saturday, June 4.

    In memory of the classmates we’ve lost, the Class of 1996 is accepting donations for a Memorial Scholarship in their honor to be awarded to a 2016 Chiefland High School graduate.
