  • The runners honoring Citrus Sheriff's Capt. Phil Royal passed through Levy County on Saturday, July 23, honoring his commitment to complete the Run for Money for Key Training Center.

    Royal, a candidate for Citrus County Sheriff, collapsed and died earlier in the week as he was beginning the annual run by law enforcement officers from Tallahassee to Citrus County.

  • “It happened several times,” said Kaye Gaither. “My husband Michael, Honey and I would be in a public place and a small child would see us and smile. Then their parents would see us and become nervous and direct their children to stay away from us.”

    Regional planning council meeting

    Please be advised that there will be a North Central Florida Regional Planning Council meeting on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, 213 N.W. Commerce Blvd., Lake City.  Guest speaker will be Jim Wood, Office of Policy Planning, Florida Department of Transportation.

  • The Suwannee Valley Players summer youth production “Oliver!” opens on Friday, July 22 at the Chief Theater at 25 E. Park Ave. in Chiefland.

  • A new chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy will hold a charter meeting on Saturday, Aug 6 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the recreation room.

  • The Swilley Family Reunion will be Sunday, July 24 at the Pavillion at Hart Springs in Gilchrist County. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. and family and friends are invited to come early and share pictures or stories about the family. You don’t have to be a member of this Swilley family, any Swilley family or friends will be very welcome.

  • The public is invited to attend a public hearing hosted by Elder Options on Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. in Conference Room A, 100 S.W. 75th St., Suite 301, Gainesville.

  • The United Methodist Men of First United Methodist Church in Chiefland will host their annual Falling Off the Bone Spare Rib Dinner on Saturday, July 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church at 707 N. Main St., Chiefland. You can dine in or take out. To reserve a dinner, call 352-493-4627

    The menu includes: spare ribs, cole slaw, baked beans, Junie’s buns, dessert and beverage (seconds welcome).

    The suggested minimum donation is $10 per adult meal or take-out with children under 10 eating free.
