  • Young and old alike came out Saturday to celebrate with the town of Bronson as it paid tribute to the blueberry harvest.

    From a parade down Highway 27 to the town park, festival goers enjoyed a day of celebration. 

  • Food distribution

    The Food for Life food distribution is on the second and fourth Saturday of the month starting at 10 a.m. at the Chiefland First United Methodist Church with a suggested donation of $3.50.

    VBS Bronson Road Church

    Bronson Road Church will hold vacation Bible school from 6-8:30 p.m. June 22-25.

    The church is located at 1380 NE 80th Ave., Newberry.

  • LifeSouth Community Blood Centers will be hosting its 5th Annual Battle of the Sexes blood drive competition June 22-26, and the ladies in North Florida will be trying to keep their record perfect.

    “This marks our fifth year, and the ladies have won every year,” said LifeSouth North Florida District Director Dustin Scott. “The whole idea is to beat the heat and add a little fun to the challenge of avoiding a summer blood shortage.”

  • The Suwannee Valley Players presents auditions for The Addams Family Musical,  book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, based on characters created by Charles Addams. Show dates: Oct. 16-18, 23-25, 30-31 and Nov. 1

  • Connie Brown, left, executive director for Tri County Outreach, accepts a food donation from Kassie Ortiz, postal employee in Chiefland. Tri County Outreach would like to thank the citizens of Chiefland for all the can goods that were donated to the food pantry May 9 as part of the annual Mother's Day Postal Workers Food Drive.

    Also a big thank you to all the postal workers who collected the cans.

    Tri County Outreach's emergency food pantry is open Monday-Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 708 N. Main St., Chiefland.

  • Bronson has been a town in search of a festival for a few years – remember the Pumpkin Festival? – but it may have hit upon a perfect celebration with Saturday’s 1st Ever Blueberry Festival.

    There are a number of blueberry farms in Levy County, some of them U-pick operations, so the festivities will support Levy County agriculture and Bronson’s primary production crop of blueberries.

  • June 14 is Flag Day and the American Legion Post 236 in Bronson will be honoring our national emblem. The public is welcome to attend.  

       The Sons of the American Legion are holding a poker run and the Post is putting on a fish fry.

       There will also be a flag retirement ceremony whereby worn out flags will be destroyed according to tradition.

    The fish fry will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the flag ceremony.  

    The Legion is also holding a membership drive for the Legion, Auxiliary, Sons and Riders.

    WWII vets meet in Trenton

       WW II Veterans and Proud of It will meet Thursday, June 11 in Trenton at Cherry's Rest. Next meeting will be in September as we do not meet during the summer. Please come, bring your spouse, caregiver or friend.  So glad to see all of you that were there this month. Rod Hooten was out of the nursing home to visit with us, his good friends, Ruby Duke and her son Richard brought him. Any questions, please call Virginia Lewis at 352-528-2310.
