    World War II Veterans

    All World War II veterans are urged to attend the monthly meeting Thursday, Dec. 13 at 11:30 a.m. at Homestead Restaurant in Fanning Springs.

    There will not be a gift exchange but everyone is asked to bring a gift for a child up to the age of 12 years old. A Toys for Tots box will be waiting for the gift drop off.

    Betty and Gene Rapp of Haven Hospice will be the guests of the day. They will present veterans who are present with a special lapel pin to honor their military service to the United States.

  • Crystal Wilson and Daniel Pinkston were united in marriage Oct. 6 at University City Church of Christ in Gainesville. The reception was held at Haile Village Center.

    The new Mrs. Pinkston is the daughter of Henry and Annette Wilson of Cross City. She is a Realtor with Bosshardt Realty Services.

    The groom is the son of Carl and Martha Pinkston of Williston. He is a firefighter with the city of Ocala.

    The couple honeymooned in the Bahamas.

  • Richard Connatser Jr. and Ann Endsley-Corbin of Chiefland announce the birth of their son, Alexander William Connatser, born Dec. 3, 2007 at Shands in Gainesville.

    The baby weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces ad was 19.5 inches long.

    Paternal grandparents are Dennis Connatser and Theresa Connatser of Fanning Springs.

    Maternal grandparents are Elizabeth Endsley and Richard Corbin of Chiefland.

    Great-grandparents are Ellen and Eugene Kitchens of Keystone Heights and Jackie Endsley of Illinois.

  • Bruce and Betty Nowlin celebrated their Golden Anniversary Friday, Dec. 7

    Making Chiefland their home in 1979, the couple has enjoyed the many friends, neighbors and business locals who have befriended them for the past 28 years.

    Mr. Nowlin is a retired safety counselor and publisher of State Safety League Publications. He continues to enjoy his daily ritual of maintaining his organic garden and "keeping up with the roosters", and his "buddy boy" Barney.

  • A 63-year-old member of the University of Florida Class of 1967 retired Nov. 30 from Farm Credit of North Florida after 40 years of faithful service.

    William E. "Billy" DeVore Jr. said he has no regrets about his tour of duty with Farm Credit, where he last served as loan officer and assistant vice president.

    "It has been very rewarding," he said, "very fulfilling."

    He is glad to have worked with the company distributed back about $100 million throughout 18 counties in North Florida since 1988, he said.

  • RALEIGH - An elderly Raleigh couple is grateful for a deferred loan, which resulted in a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home being built where their house of 46 years once sat.

    Thomas Days, 71, and Delories Days, 70, both said on Nov. 8 they "feel real good" about the 1,104 square-foot house that is finished now. Their former house was in significant disrepair, including a roof that leaked.

  • Amber Hassell and Phillip Cannon announce the birth of their baby girl Ashlyn LaShay Cannon, born June 23, 2007.

    The baby weighed 8 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 21.5 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are William and Missy Hassell of Fanning Springs. Paternal grandparents are Shirley Cannon and the late Robert Cannon both of Chiefland.

    Maternal great-grandparents include Bill and Pat Beddow of Chiefland and Luther and Judy Hughes of Trenton.

  • Baylie Doty announces the birth of her brother, Jolan, born Oct.22, 2007 at 6:13 p.m. and weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces.

    The two are the children of Gabe and Angel Doty of Cedar Key. Grandparents are Angie Doty, Joyce Goss, Neil Doty and Dan Goss. Great-grandmother is Edith Goss.

  • T.J. and Lynn Miller of Chiefland announce the birth of a daughter Olivia Lynn, born at 4:16 p.m. Oct. 11, 2007 at North Florida Hospital in Gainesville.

    The baby weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Paternal grandparents are Chris and Jennifer Williams of Old Town and Anthony Miller of Trenton.

    Paternal great-grandparents are Sharon Asbell of Old Town and Virginia Chauncey of Trenton.

    Maternal grandparents are David and Kay Kidd of Chiefland.

    Maternal great-grandmother is Lena Kidd of Chiefland.

  • Erwin Poole of Chiefland and Gladys Poole of Georgia announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Magen Poole to Cody Carter, son of Eugene Carter III and Lavonia Carter, both of Chiefland.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Arlene Poole and the late Ed Poole and also Bonnie Kirkland and the late George Kirkland.

    The future groom is the grandson of Irene Harden and the late Lloyd Harden and also Eugene and Dorothy Carter.

    The wedding will take place Saturday, Nov. 17 at four o?clock in the afternoon at the home of the future groom?s mother.
