  • Outgoing Suwannee Rotary Club president Tom Andresen presents the club’s presidential plaque to incoming club president Justin Hardy at Andresen’s final meeting as leader. Andresen thanked his club for its support during his term.

  • Skipper Henderson took the occasion of his final meeting as president of the Chiefland Rotary Club last Wednesday to reflect on the group’s accomplishments under his leadership and its direction for the future.

    It’s come a long way since it was brought in to the vet days after getting hit by an automobile.

  • The "Veterans Walk"  started just as dusk fell. with the entire park in absolute silence while patrons stood and saluted our great flag while the National Anthem played in the Bronson 4th of July celebration.

  • AARP has recognized Debra Weiss for 50+ hours of volunteer work. Community involvement is an important part of AARP's Mission. AARP Services, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of AARP that oversees providers and the products offered to its members, recognizes Weiss for 50+ volunteer hours through the ACES community service program. 

  • The Town of Bronson will hold its Annual 4th of July Celebration on Monday, July 4, beginning at 4 p.m. for an Independence Day celebration.

    Vendors will be on hand selling delicious treats. Visitors can participate in a Home Run Derby and various children’s games while we wait for the sky to darken. Bronson Fire & Rescue, Station 70, will begin lighting the sky with fireworks at dark. So bring your chairs and blankets to the James H. Cobb Park and join us for this fun, family event.

  • Auditions for “The Lion in Winter” a production of the Suwannee Valley Players at The Chief Theater, 25 E. Park Ave., Chiefland, are on Saturday, July 9, at 6 p.m.

    Sibling rivalry, adultery and dungeons – “The Lion in Winter,” by James Goldman, is a modern day classic. Comedic in tone, dramatic in action – the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family who are locked in a free for all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom.

    Planning Council meets tonight

    The North Central Florida Regional Planning Council meets on Thursday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. (dinner at 7:00 p.m.) at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, 213 N.W. Commerce Blvd., Lake City. 

    The guest speaker will be Jerry Parrish, chief economist and director of research of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.
