    Williston Friends hold book sale

    Friends of the Williston Public Library will hold its first book fair of the fall from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the City Hall Community Center,  at the south end of Williston City Hall. There will be a huge number of books and magazines.

    Law Day banquet honors  officers

    The Chiefland Woman's Club will be hosting its annual Law Appreciation Banquet at 6 p.m. at the Chiefland Elementary Cafeteria.

    The banquet honors the area's outstanding law enforcement, corrections and wildlife officers, and fire and emergency medical service personnel.

    On August 30, the Bronson Church of God turned the eleven o’clock church service over to “God’s Little Army”. The children, ages ranging from diapers to teens, greeted guests at the door as they entered, handed them a church bulletin, made the church announcements, acted as Deacons, held worship service and interacted with the Pastor and congregation for the message.

    Williston Church of Christ will host Ladies Day on October 3rd with the theme “Walk With Jesus Daily.” Guest speakers are Amber Bradley and Kim Smith.     • Gospel Concert at Bronson COG    

  • More than 40 participants from the Levy Association for Retarded Citizens Work Activity Center located in Otter Creek visited the Cedar Key Community Center last Thursday for a luncheon, informational presentations by local officials and a dance.

    “Mrs. Thelma McCain made us a fish dinner, grits, coleslaw, hush puppies and cake,” said Trainer Kathy Eschbach. McCain’s son Harold is a LARC participant. “Mrs. McCain fed everybody – anyone who walked through the front door,” Eschbach said.

  • Levy Dwain Justice, 65, of Williston, died on August 6. He was born on February 14, 1944, in Jacksonville, to Audi and Norell Justice.

    He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked as a metrologist for a nuclear power plant. He was of the Baptist faith. He moved to Williston 10 years ago from Pennsville, N.J.

    He was an amateur ham operator, call K4VSJ, from 1958 to current. He enjoyed doing amateur radio he enjoyed spelunking in high school and was known for running a 4.26 mile in 1961 at Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Neptune.

  • The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, August 20 at the Levy County Quilt Museum.   

    What a wonderful day we had with six members from the Joyful Heart Quilters near Branford.  We started there in 1991 in a small building and now they meet in the Fire Department where they have more room and are also meeting every week.  We also help them when we take quilts and crafts to the fair in Tampa.

    More fabric has been brought in and we hope we can get rid of it.

  • Prayer walk for Chiefland schools

         The Chiefland Ministerial Association is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Prayer Walk for the schools of Chiefland.  All church members and believers are invited to meet at Hardeetown Baptist Church on Sunday at 4:15 pm.

    Suwannee Insurance Ribbon Cutting

    A grand opening ribbon cutting will be held for Suwannee Insurance at 1:30 p.m. by the Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce at  2467-B North Young Blvd. after the August regular Chamber meeting.
