  • Bronson UMC holds yard sale
    The AE Circle of the Bronson United Methodist Church will sponsor a yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the recreation hall. Look for signs. Proceeds will benefit the church, which is remodeling a kitchen.

    Tourism board to meet
    The Levy County Tourist Development Council will hold its bi-monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at the Levy County Visitors Bureau, 620 N. Hathaway Ave., Bronson. The meeting is open to the public.

    Chicken 'n' dumplings at Shrine Club
    The Suwannee River Shrine Club  will hold a chicken 'n' dumpling dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. or until the food runs out. Dinner is available to eat in or take out. The suggested donation is $7 for all you can eat. The public is welcome.

  • The Annual  Gulf Hammock Homecoming and Smallwood Reunion will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, beginning at 10 a.m. at Henry Beck Park in Gulf Hammock.
    Lunch will be at 1 p.m. Plates, utensils, cups, tea, and ice will be furnished. Those participating are asked to please bring a covered dish and chairs. Friends, relatives, residents, and former residents of Gulf Hammock are invited.

  • The 2009-2010 Levy County 4-H Sewing campers completed a community service project as part of the camps. They made necktie coolers for our soldiers. When soaked in cold water these necktie coolers expand and assist with keeping our soldiers cool.  
    And as it happens, one of the fiscal assistants at the University of Florida IFAS Family Nutrition Program is married to a soldier. He happened to be home on leave as the summer was ending and has agreed to accept the coolers and take them back to the soldiers.

    The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Levy County Quilt Museum. It was a great day.  We had a Church group over from Hawthorne to come by and visit.  Some we hadn’t seen in several years.  
    Sometimes they come to see if I’m still here and I tell them my Lord hasn’t come yet so I’m still here.

  • Mrs. Carolyn Cohens – Gent of Chiefland announces the engagement of her daughter Miss Katrina Cohens of Chiefland to David Williams Jr. of Gainesville. David is the son of Ms. Rosetta Joshua Williams and Mr. David Williams Sr. of Gainesville.

  • The next meeting of the Suwannee River Garden Club will be held Monday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. 

  • Hart Springs will be featured in a segment of a new TV series on geology put together by the British Broadcasting Corporation and the Discovery Channel.

    Filming for the project at Hart Springs, which focused on part of the spring's cave system, started Wednesday and ended on Friday.

    Lucy Van Beek, a BBC producer at the springs Wednesday, said the TV series, called “Naked Earth”, will be hosted by the BBC's Richard Hammond and will air some time in 2011.

  • It was a day full of events on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Williston Horseman’s Park. Cross Brand Cowboy Church hosted their first team roping at 10 a.m. It was a three-head progressive put on by John Hudson and his crew. Casey Larkins and Bud Partin rode away with the top prize money. The next team roping will be Saturday, Oct. 2. Sign-up is at 9 a.m., rope at 10 a.m.

    The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library Board of Directors will hold their monthly meeting at the Library, 104 N.E. 3rd St., Chiefland (a block behind City Hall), at 11 a.m. The Luther Callaway Public Library is the Chiefland Branch of the Levy County Public Library System.
