  • The next meeting of the Suwannee River Garden Club will be held Monday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. 

  • Hart Springs will be featured in a segment of a new TV series on geology put together by the British Broadcasting Corporation and the Discovery Channel.

    Filming for the project at Hart Springs, which focused on part of the spring's cave system, started Wednesday and ended on Friday.

    Lucy Van Beek, a BBC producer at the springs Wednesday, said the TV series, called “Naked Earth”, will be hosted by the BBC's Richard Hammond and will air some time in 2011.

  • It was a day full of events on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Williston Horseman’s Park. Cross Brand Cowboy Church hosted their first team roping at 10 a.m. It was a three-head progressive put on by John Hudson and his crew. Casey Larkins and Bud Partin rode away with the top prize money. The next team roping will be Saturday, Oct. 2. Sign-up is at 9 a.m., rope at 10 a.m.

  • The Williston FFA chapter will be holding a BBQ Dinner Fundraiser Friday September 17, 2010 prior to the home football game against Chiefland.  The dinner will be served from 5-7pm in the Williston High School cafeteria.  The dinner is only $8 and you can purchase a ticket from any FFA member or call the Agriculture Department at 528-2153.  Walk ins are welcome.

  • Manatee Springs

    The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Manatee Springs State Park will host a story book reading in celebration of Literacy Month  at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, 2009. The park will also host a story book reading of Al Burks' "Mullet Latitudes" by Ranger Matt Meyer  at 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12 and 13, 2010.

  • Lighthouse Word Church will be facilitating the Financial Peace University on Sunday nights, starting  Sunday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m.  The 13-week program, taught by Dave Ramsey, has helped more than 1 million families across the country positively change their financial future by beating debt and building wealth.

  • The Chiefland Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., will offer flu vaccinations on a walk-in basis and through a vaccine clinic from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 7.

    Customers using their Winn-Dixie Customer Reward Card will receive a $5 discount off the $28 flu vaccine ($23 with the Customer Reward Card). Flu shots are free for most Medicare customers.

  • The fifth annual motorcycle fund-raiser “Ride to Provide,” to benefit Levy Association for Retarded Citizens (Levy ARC), will be held Sept. 11 at 10 a.m.

    On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Bronson High School with free coffee and doughnuts.

    The ride will begin with kickstands up at 10 a.m. Participants are encouraged to pre-register online at www.ridetoprovide.net.
