  • Haven Hospice Volunteer Services will be hosting a meeting for those interested in volunteering with Haven’s pet therapy program. The session is from noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Haven Hospice Tri-Counties Care Center,  311 N.E. 9th St.,  Chiefland.

       The meeting is free and open to the public. Please bring a brown bag lunch.

  •  The Chiefland Rotary Club has a new slate of officers for the 2011-12 year, from left, David Renaud, president; Robert Balbis, vice president; Robert Beauchamp, treasurer; and Michael Michaelis, secretary.

  •  Eva Ruth Mayo, longtime Bronson resident, will be honored by family and friends at an open house to celebrate her 80th birthday. The party is on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 2-5 p.m. at the Bronson United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Friends are invited to stop by and share in the joy of this occasion.

  • Army Pvt. Aaron J. Edman, son of Kimberly Parker, of Williston, and Jay Edman, of Kingsland, Ga., has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

       During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat and field maneuvers and tactics.

  • The Upland Habitats Module, a six-week course, will be on Thursdays, Sept. 22 through Oct. 27, Levy County Extension Office, 625 N. Hathaway Ave — U.S. Highway 27A, Bronson. Course fee of $225 includes student workbooks, 12 presentations, three field trips, four videos, certificate, patch, pin, and more.

  •  On Aug. 1, the National Commander In Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America, Richard Eubank, of California, visited the local Chiefland VFW Post 5625. He and the Florida State Officers were in route to Tallahassee for a meeting with our governor and political representatives to promote veterans legislation.
