  • LARC visits Cedar Key

    More than 40 participants from the Levy Association for Retarded Citizens Work Activity Center located in Otter Creek visited the Cedar Key Community Center last Thursday for a luncheon, informational presentations by local officials and a dance.

    “Mrs. Thelma McCain made us a fish dinner, grits, coleslaw, hush puppies and cake,” said Trainer Kathy Eschbach. McCain’s son Harold is a LARC participant. “Mrs. McCain fed everybody – anyone who walked through the front door,” Eschbach said.

  • Levy Dwain Justice

    Levy Dwain Justice, 65, of Williston, died on August 6. He was born on February 14, 1944, in Jacksonville, to Audi and Norell Justice.

    He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked as a metrologist for a nuclear power plant. He was of the Baptist faith. He moved to Williston 10 years ago from Pennsville, N.J.

    He was an amateur ham operator, call K4VSJ, from 1958 to current. He enjoyed doing amateur radio he enjoyed spelunking in high school and was known for running a 4.26 mile in 1961 at Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Neptune.

  • Log Cabin Quilters

    The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, August 20 at the Levy County Quilt Museum.   

    What a wonderful day we had with six members from the Joyful Heart Quilters near Branford.  We started there in 1991 in a small building and now they meet in the Fire Department where they have more room and are also meeting every week.  We also help them when we take quilts and crafts to the fair in Tampa.

    More fabric has been brought in and we hope we can get rid of it.

  • Donors stuff the bus

    Volunteers turned out Saturday morning and took their posts beside bright yellow school buses and waited patiently until late afternoon for generous donors to bring school supplies to be distributed to Levy County public school students. Started by the Morriston Baptist Church's Band of Brothers and sponsored by the Levy County Schools Foundation, the collection of pens, pencils, paper and backpacks is an annual rite.

  • 2 area students win awards at state poster contest

    Two Tri-County students — one from Levy County and one from Dixie County — won awards for their age divisions in the “Dig It — The Secrets of Soil” poster contest sponsored  statewide by the Association of Conservation Districts.

    The statewide judging was held in Jacksonville earlier this month.

    Shelbi McCall of Dixie County, who had already won first place in local and district poster competition, placed thired in the fourth to sixth grade division.

  • Log Cabin Quilters

    The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, August 13 at the Levy County Quilt Museum. A lot of work was done.

    Our days and weeks are getting busier.  On Tuesday, eight of us went to Camp Caruth to help the children and counselors make pillows.  What a great day we had.

    On Wednesday, Derick and six boys were out and we got a lot of things taken care of — mowing, repairing the quilt block on the porch, hanging our Light House outside, putting up chairs in the cupboard outside and so much more.  Thank you Lancaster.

  • Meet the world's disdain with confident grace born of faith

    The other evening I heard a man on the television emphatically state that he did not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  I could sense that he had a real feeling of scorn for those who do.     

    Prominent men in public places have also expressed their contempt for “born-againers.”  This is typical of the general attitude toward orthodox Christians and the truths they confess.
