  •   Army Pvt. Matthew C. McKinney, the son of Michael McKinney of Chiefland and Tammi Reda of St. Cloud. has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of basic infantry training and advanced individual training.

  • Denny and Jo Williams, of Chiefland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were wed on June 20, 1961, in Dade City.

  •    Mr. and Mrs. Chet and Dana Collins and Stephen Jones, of Bell, announce the engagement of their daughter Andi Jones, also of Bell, to Randy T. Ransom, of Chiefland. Ransom is the son of Randy and Jammie Ransom, of Trenton, and Lorrie Hammock, of Chiefland.
       The bride-to-be attended  Bell High School and is currently studying nursing at Santa Fe College. The groom-to-be attended Chiefland High School and works at the Gilchrist Club, in Trenton.
    The wedding is planned for July 2, 2011, at 4 p.m. at Pricilla Baptist Church.

    Tourism grant meeting
    The Levy County Tourist Development Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. at the Levy County Agricultural Center, 625 N. Hathaway Ave. in Bronson. The meeting is for the 2011-2012 advertising grant application review and recommendations. The meeting is open to the public.

    Tourism task force to meet
    The monthly meeting of the Original Florida Tourism Task Force will take place June 23, at 10 a.m. at the Best Western Inn Plus of Wakulla in Crawfordville.

  • LifeSouth and the Chiefland community invite you to be a part
    of saving lives when they team up to host a blood drive at Walmart on Friday and Saturday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. 
    Or, you can choose to donate at the LifeSouth Donor Center on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or Saturday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  The donor center is located across the U.S. Highway 19 from Walmart in the Winn-Dixie Shopping Center, 2201 N. Young Boulevard.

  •    A free fishing clinic for ages 6 to 16 will take place July 11, 12, 13, 19, 20 and 21 at the George Kirkpatrick Marine Lab in Cedar Key from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
       Participants will learn about angling techniques, fish identification, catch and release techniques and habitat identification. Participants completing the clinic will also get a free rod and reel combo and tackle box courtesy of Fish Florida.
