The Haven Hospice Alliance will host the 9th Annual Styles for Life Fashion Show, a benefit for Haven Hospice. This year’s theme is “Pearls at the Paramount.” Radio station KTK’s Storm Roberts returns as emcee of the event, which features local fashions by Coldwater Creek, Belk, Rapid City Clothiers (RCC Western Stores) and the Haven Hospice Attic.  The event will also feature special guest models, door prizes and a silent auction, as well as a cash wine bar.  The event is Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at Paramount Plaza, 2900 SW 13th St.

American Legion Post 91 dinner meeting

The Jamerson-Sheffield Post 91, American Legion will have its regular membership donation dinner and meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and the membership meeting starting after the dinner. As always it is a joint meeting with the  Ladies Auxiliary of the Post. Please plan to attend to keep the organization moving forward. All veterans are welcome to attend.

POW-MIA ceremony at Legion Post 383

In the Jim Sensbach Memorial Hall of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5625 stands a single round table. It’s a symbol of unending concern on the part of mothers who couldn’t sleep at night and fathers who had to act strong when they sent their children to war.

It’s draped with a white tablecloth to remind Americans of the purity of the soldier’s intent.

Empty chairs await the soldiers’ return, and slices of lemon on plates hint at the bitterness suffered by those gone missing or taken prisoner.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Manatee Springs State Park, along with The Friends of Manatee/Fanning Springs Parks, Inc. will host the Suwannee River clean-up effort in support of the 16th Annual National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009.
